Working on getting some dates lined up to come down and ride with you Larry, sometime near the end of July or maybe the beginning of August? Just the wife and I in the RZR if it works out.

Thank you David hope all had happy 4th. We sure did good riding good people. Was nice on a big holiday to see nobody on our ride. Beaches where packed surfers campers fishing .

Curious, Larry... but has anyone at Rancho Agua Caliente developed the hot springs there since we went in 2017? Seems like such a great opportunity for a remote campground there, with hot soaking pools.

bajatrailrider - 7-5-2022 at 11:32 AM

HAHA you know me and locals David . We pray that does not happed as big mass of people. Will close routes and locked gates. As a matter of fact since you where here. Owner Rancho did run cable and lock route . Past rancho house to get there still two ways to get there . The way we went in wash the big white gate only locked when cattle there. The return way most all have no idea how to get there. Lets keep it that way owner wants low key there . AS few people that go there leave trash un cool.

Missed opportunity.
A for-pay campground with a manager on-site to collect money, empty trash cans, keep the place making money.
Hot springs are such a wonderful 'gift from God' that is seems a shame it cannot be shared better.
Oh well, I won't see it again... It was nice when we went, even though we didn't take a dip!

Here is what we saw in October 2017... a hot spring first mentioned in the 1958 Lower California Guidebook:

Bubbling pool of clean, hot water:

Larry and his lady... the walk to the hot spring is very short!:

The hot water pool overflows into the cool-mountain stream:

We can go there anytime David as owner gave me keys if gate locked. So next time yes take a dip. We went there one night two 4x4 trucks . I bought my honda gen. 2000 to power big light. once we got hot spring ready lights out stars .Good people good times

Even as a pd camp ground does not work in Mexico. Last time to San Carlos just out of Ensenada. The hot springs there dirty and get this they want a hundred bucks a night . HAHA plus no hot water in rooms to shower . I told them you have free hot water ? Any motel in Baja for 20 bucks has hot water.:bounce:

I suppose I was spoiled by Guadalupe Canyon Hot Springs?

The place (Arturo's Campo #1) was kept clean and no loud music was tolerated. It was around $100 for two nights camping then at the small site we liked. The locals from Mexicali went across the canyon to the other campo, which was less private, cheaper, and not as restrictive.

Since Arturo was forced to leave (when his relatives from across the canyon shut off the flow of hot water, as the source spring was above Arturo's property), we have not returned. That was in 2008.

The tent camping is not what we paid that amount for... it was the amazing canyon location and the clean and not sulfur smelling hot water tub outside our tent...

Private tub in our campsite (La Jolla-B)

Hiking trails up the canyon to waterfalls

Exotic palm-filled campground

Hot spring fed swimming pool

Hot springs are sometimes an adventure.

Been to a few sketchy one full of naked weirdos.
Been to a few old-timey hot spring resorts, when they were funky before being crowded….
Been to a few remote ones, the type where no one is around,…
And been to a few in baja that are just disappointing….
People in baja have tried to commercialize some unappealing low-flow springs and done a really poor job of it!
