So sad and tragic!:(

SFandH - 9-24-2022 at 12:39 PM

I've recently read a report in a BC newspaper about street drugs (tablets) cut with fentanyl that are made to look and packaged like pharmaceuticals. Could be the cause.

I doubt any Nomads buy that kind of stuff, but if so, stop.

It is pouring over the wide open border into the US. Fentanyl poisonings are the #1 cause of death for ppl under 45. Kills more than suicide, car accidents, and Covid, combined.

It doesn't take much more than a pin head to kill someone. They are selling it using Snapchat to teenagers.

The media is hardly saying a peep about it. We have told our kids over and over you can't do street drugs. It's literally like playing Russian roulette.

Most all illegal drugs are street drugs. Even if you get your drugs from an upper middle class kid, the source of drugs is usually some crime organization 3 hands removed. The only exception is people getting their drugs from stolen or fraudulently obtained pharmaceuticals.

Short stuff: You would be a better parent to tell your kids to not do drugs, and if they must do drugs, then stick to alcohol and home-grown organic pot.

Pot is easy to grow, and legal to grow, all you tokers should grow your own…

JDCanuck - 9-24-2022 at 02:45 PM

Pretty common story up here is people who were led into addiction to opiates through prescriptions from their doctors after major physical trauma.
Over prescriptions of opiates is still being compensated by major lawsuits against pharmaceutical companies that pushed them out in past decades claiming there were no long term dangers.

JDCanuck - 9-24-2022 at 02:57 PM

But this story if accurate is definitely murder. This man did not choose the drug that killed him, someone else chose it for him. The really surprising part is no one tried to help

What exactly would you do to prevent its coming in?

Simple, go back to what worked.

What exactly "worked" in the past?

Most people seem to agree that the "war on drugs" as we have historically approached it, has been an expensive and colossal failure. What worked?

Coke was ~$100 a gram in 1975, it's ~$80 today ($15 in 1975!!!). That tells me the supply has not been affected, in fact, increased despite the DEA getting hundreds of billions over the years.:o

Remember the drug quaalude? It was a very popular drug that is no longer available. The way it was eliminated was to get control of the precursor chemicals. That is now happening with fentanyl.

Lencho: Quote: "They were standing at the bar and they were having conversation with these young ladies and the people at the bar. And he took a sip out of a drink and just collapsed," his mother said.

Thomas said no one was trying to help her son.

"They moved them out of the way, like I said earlier," she said. "Drag him outside and threw him in the alley."

Thomas explained the family had to do their own investigation to find Colburt's body. When it was time to bring him home, Thomas said the morgue charged the family extra fees.

His death is being investigated as a homicide.

True...may not be a Homicide...just being investigated as such. I am mainly shocked they threw his body outside without attempts to revive him. What do you call that where you come from?

Unsubstantiated as yet? Like the allegation of homicide?

I think more facts are needed in this case. Where's Inspector Gadget?

I was responding and quoted Lencho. Regarding the 'coming in' across the border.

Good for you. So, what worked in the past?

Which is why there is a link to a GoFundMe page for additional info so the family can pay for the investigation I would guess.

Fentanyl: Despite the rapidly expanding amounts actually being stopped at borders according to those posts I put up earlier, the amount getting in has been growing rapidly as has the death rates. For our grandkids safety we have to find an answer. This one is being mixed with other recently legalized drugs at present without the users' knowledge and there is now a movement to legalize Cocaine as well. Very small amounts can be lethal and we can't continue to ignore it.

*There was a wait in Mexico program.

Now, with the free flow of everyone from everywhere, all sorts of dangerous drugs and people are coming across. Nobody had to get tested for Covid, either.
Drug traffickers and human smugglers have a friend in the White House now. Fentanyl poisoning is killing hundreds daily. Shame shame shame.

David,
What does any of your partisan diatribe have to do with the guy who died partying in Papas and Beer in Rosarito? Huh? :?:

P.s. can you tell me which channel is state-controlled, I think I might like to watch it and see what is up.

Lock the border down to only legal migration as much as possible.

Fund and accelerate the processing of legal migration.

monoloco - 9-24-2022 at 10:27 PM

I don't know what good a border wall does when the majority of drugs come across in tractor trailers, automobiles, ships, planes, or tunnels.

More resources can be dedicated to the ports of entry once the border is relatively secure.

mtgoat666 - 9-25-2022 at 07:00 AM

Drug smuggling and immigration are unrelated. Only idiots and bigots that hate immigrants try to link the 2 issues.

That's right. IMHO, it's almost impossible to stop the smuggling of high-value, low-volume items like meth, fentanyl, and heroin. One tactic the cartel uses is to take a large amount, say 10 pounds of meth, break it up into 1-pound packages, and use 10 cars to get it through the border, knowing that the majority will make it.

We could try what Netherlands did and decriminalize posession of all drugs, register users and supply them with the controlled drugs while enrolling them in treatment programs. Altho growth of deaths there doesn't seem to be much lower at present.
If we were seeing this many soldier deaths each year in a war we'd be rioting. And this is no longer a street problem, as over 3/4 of the deaths occur in residences. Soon we will all know a family that has lost a child to this scourge.
I will applaud the efforts of the CBP as they try to do their bit with the resources and limitations they are supplied with.

Who's going to pay for this secure border? Mexico? Brazil? Venezuela? US taxpayers?

How much are we already spending? How much more do we need?

Raise taxes? Cut taxes? Borrow money? Think about it, and it will happen
like declassifying documents?

Ideas without a plan are useless.

David K - 9-27-2022 at 07:49 AM

It was a lot more secure before 2021... and if the wall was allowed to finish, the border patrol could more easily manage the limited illegal crossings. The cost of not having a secure border is a hundred times greater... a thousand times, perhaps.

Define "a lot more secure" please.

Border crossings are up, but just above 1986 and 2000 levels. Who was in the Oval Office during those years? Have you asked yourself why so many people are crossing? Why in 1986 and 2004?

https://www.wola.org/analysis/us-government-2018-border-data...

Government spending on enforcement has gone up every year since 2004.

https://www.americanimmigrationcouncil.org/research/the-cost...

Hard to make the case that it's one man's responsibility. The rest of your argument is just unsupportable hyperbole.

Take the $500B they have planned to give white people to repay student loans (e.g. Biden Buying Votes Act of 2022) and put it towards a much better use.

Then start a legit and organized legal immigration program.

Goat,

CNN admitted that they had opinion 24/7 not news. That’s why they fired so many of the old regimes people and moved others to where no one watches them.

I have a better idea.

If businesses that got "loan forgiveness" from the PPP program paid back that money, it would be a lot more than $500B.

10.2 million businesses got loans forgiven under the PPP. Out of 11 million loans, more than 90% forgiven. Corporate welfare at it's best.

10 million x $72,500 (average loan) = $725B

https://www.pandemicoversight.gov/data-interactive-tools/dat...

Know any of those businesses?

And, we've all been waiting for Congress to pass immigration reform since at least the early 1990's, through all administrations up until today. What's the magic trick needed to get that to happen?

You can do better.

Difference situations:

Govt. restricted businesses ability to do business with lock downs. Govt. gave businesses money so they didn't fire employees. The money was to pay employees. This was during the height of the pandemic.

Re student loans, the govt. did the correct thing at first by halting loan repayments during the crisis. It also gave people tons of stimulus.

To forgive loans when the pandemic is over is just a hand out to mostly middle class white ppl. The NAACP is screaming about it. It's a stunt to buy votes.

One was done by bi-partisan legislation. One was done by an illegal executive order. Thankfully the latter will be blocked by the courts.

Stop reading opinion pieces in the NYTs.

$500B to individuals, bad. Inflationary.

$725B to business (you), good. Not inflationary.

I think I got it. Thanks for clearing that up.
