Baja Van Life Event - Escapar a la Baja - Feb 1 - 6, 2023

josiahq - 11-24-2022 at 10:43 AM

The fourth annual Escapar a la Baja van life and overlanding event will be held February 1 - 6th, 2023 at Playa Tecolote. The event is free and open to all, but please RSVP at the website to help us know how many portos to order, and if you want to do something interactive like a workshop etc. please let us know and we'll get it added to the schedule.

Also look for the limited edition "Escapar" beer from Cerveceria Transpeninsular available all up and down the peninsula this winter.

Your video looks like it is very bougie event, are you open for the more typical average van lifer?
Lots of van lifers living on streets in San Diego. You should hold your event closer to where all the homeless live, they would probably like to attend an event like this.

It's a free event so whomever wants to come, can come.

Love Baja Bound. Thanks so much!

I'm legitimately worried that Baja will be taken over by vanlifers. I think it has already started....

Actually, in the 70s and early 80s, caravans were larger and more numerous. RVs and fuel were a lot cheaper then, and it was a growing industry/lifestyle.

There are far fewer manufacturers offering much more expensive products now, and failed RV parks are all over Baja (and the roads to it).

I never used many RV parks, other than my stays at Campestre Maranatha west of La Paz, but the trend toward "Overlanding" is making it harder to find relatively isolated camping.

mtgoat666 - 12-1-2022 at 08:17 AM

Back on topic,… what is it that some travelers flock together like cormorants and geese, and other travelers stay alone like mangrove warblers.

When I go camping, my goal is to have a campsite alone, no people for miles.

This van life event is super odd, the travelers are purposefully flocking together like girls going to the bathroom in a bar. Very odd.

That's an easy answer goat, your leftist newspaper editors keep reporting on how dangerous Mexico is and it is implied that tourists are potential targets of attack (what we Nomads would call 'fake news'). People still want some adventure but without the danger. Caravans give a sense of safety in numbers or to follow a guide who knows the area and can show the newbies interesting sites they may otherwise miss.

Get ready for it DK............incoming............

You just can't keep your right wing BS off this board. Why interject this crap on a Baja website where people come to be happy?

Control your compulsions!

 but,but I NEVER start it

Why did you chit all over this thread with your politics?

Ateo - 12-1-2022 at 01:00 PM

DK, you can say whatever you’d like here, as long as Doug doesn’t deem it too much. It’s OK, your freedoms aren’t being taken away here on a Baja website. But what I’m trying to point out is people come here to try to enjoy Baja, and aren’t interested in seeing political BS in a thread about some van life people.

Would you huddle up to our Baja campfire around a group of semi-strangers and start calling them leftist lib tards? No you wouldn’t. Common decency is available in every moment.

I apologize to the original poster on this thread. I will probably just delete my comments now.

Davey,
Are you saying right wing news media does not report on crimes against tourists in mexico?
All media follow same biz model: if it bleeds, it leads. Not a partisan thing.
I would not call crime reports ‘fake news.’

Humans are, by and large, a social species. While on the one hand I love exploring Baja and its remote corners by myself, I really enjoy coming together at the Gathering where we all share in the joy of what we got to explore.

It's nice to not feel alone, sometimes, and to share joy with one another.

Nice reply to mtgoat. Glad that all the off topic replies above have not chased you away. When my attempt to explain to him was used by his friends to make it a personal attack, I removed my replies to clean up this thread. Let's hope the others do as well.

Wow , way to go playing the victim card

willardguy - 12-1-2022 at 05:37 PM

he is the master....

gnukid - 12-1-2022 at 06:20 PM

There are thousands of people visiting BCS by van this time of year, many campgrounds, hotels with space, remote spots, but in Tecolote there are very few bathrooms, no running water, nor sewer, no stores, no gas, no services. Still it's a great spot for a day trip! It will be great to welcome these visitors for a short term stop and enjoy La Paz, and the surrounding area. Lots to see and do!

David, you are killing this forum. Why do you post so much that needs to be retracted? You are critical of those who don't delete their posts but maybe that's because we still stand by our words.

Everything you put into the internet is permanent. Here is some advice -

Before you hit the POST REPLY button ask yourself -

Is this post related to Baja and can it contribute in a positive way?

Am I alienating anyone by calling them libs, N-zis, leftists, communists, etc.?

Is this reply well thought out so Doug does not have to babysit and delete again? and again?

Do I plan on deleting this post? Is this post just temporarily planned to rile up political friction... delete later and watch the mayhem? (trolling)

I'm sure you will figure out a way to claim the victim from this viscous leftist attack.

So sorry to the original poster josiahq. You will have a great time. I wish I could be there.

Thanks! We actually bring a ton of portos *and* dumpsters out to the beach, and do a big cleanup the Sunday Morning of the event. We try to leave Tecolote better than we found it.

And the event is open to everyone, whether you're in a van, camper, tent, skoolie, etc.

mtgoat666 - 2-7-2023 at 07:08 AM

Sounds like this event became a crowded mess.

Because you let go with your bait caster and he swallows deeply every single time?

That's what I'm guessing.

You fish in the stocked pond, he's the catch.

I've been wrong before, though.
