SCORE International Ends Partnership with PCI Race Radios for the Weatherman ™ Relay Service

March 3, 2023 – Cypress, California – For over 40 years, PCI Race Radios and the Steinberger family have partnered with SCORE International to provide the crucial communication service of the PCI Weatherman™ Relay. The team has braved extreme conditions from tents in the Mount Diablo snow, to cramped aircraft for hours on end through the night to help coordinate medical, rescue, retrieval, and share information with teams across the Baja Peninsula. The PCI Weatherman Relay service has been a cornerstone of the off-road racing community and led to Bob "Weatherman" Steinberger's induction into the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame.

Scott Steinberger, CEO of PCI Race Radios, regrets that SCORE International underestimates the value in continuing this partnership. “We are saddened by SCORE’s decision to end the partnership with the PCI Weatherman Relay service, which has played a vital role in ensuring the safety of off-road racers for decades. Both my late father and I have enjoyed serving the off-road racing community and we wish SCORE and its constituents the best of luck on race day. Staying awake for 40-50 hours on top of a mountain or in an airplane each race is not for the faint of heart. It takes a special kind of stupid to put in this type of work, but the memories, stories, calls from people we were able to help and their families made the effort priceless.” PCI would also like to recognize the large team that has been a part of this relay over the years, especially Ralph 'Weathermex' Barrera. The Steinberger family’s passion for off-road racing and safety is deeply ingrained in their family history. Their commitment to safety is reflected in the quality of the products they support and the level of service they offer.

PCI Race Radios will continue its second-to-none trackside service and sales at SCORE events. “PCI will continue to serve all racers at tech and contingency at SCORE races. You can count on us to be onsite supporting your communications, navigation, and safety needs with the knowledge, expertise, and friendly support you have come to know over the decades,” explained Ryder Steinberger, Sales Manager of PCI Race Radios. “Our company remains committed to its mission of providing reliable, high-quality communication solutions to the off-road racing community.”

Scott Steinberger concluded, "We would like to remind all racers to stay vigilant and always prioritize safety. Remember, communication is key, and we are here to provide you with the solutions you need to succeed. We look forward to continuing to support you. Weatherman Clear"

Its no secret to anyone how Roger treats people that work with him. Or even works for free for him plus his treatment of Moto racers ,that get hurt. Or leaves roads that ranchers can no longer drive on. The dollar is only thing in his mind be great ,new onwer take over. What it is it is.

If he is so bad, why do people keep signing up for his races? Why dont land owners tell him to pound sand?

Sorry to hear there will be no more Weatherman at SCORE races. The Steinberger family has provided a valuable service to the racers over the years and they will be missed.

Thank you for all that you have done for me and all the racers over the years.

It would be interesting to know if Score and the big race teams have gone over to StarLink or possibly Rodrigues Communications for communications. Internet trunking of VHF 2 way radios is becoming quite common and very portable.

Apparently a monster sponsor pulled the plug after being bought out and the new parent company has no interest in motor sports so Score is fishing for money. Looks like China stepped up to the plate for some of it.

YMMV

Land owners are telling him to eat sand info i have is because I live here. So inside info from people used to work for him. Plus when injury to bike rider or Truck driver . Then American or Mexican on who gets the most help. Off road great not the one running score.

If only Sal Fish could get young again! :light:
It is disappointing and even dangerous when things that were run well are then turned into garbage by the actions (or lack of actions) by those now in charge. Things like SCORE, some states, some countries, etc.

Pending the inclusion of a new racing class:

Yeah, that looks to be about as Rugged as those junk radios. Can't wait to see how this plays out.

I think it’s a Canoo. Want to drive it off-road or even on road when someone’s trying to light you up? Looks like it and the chi-com car are related.

The folks who design this stuff need to get out more!
