Radar detectors- revisited
I just bought a new Solo 2 Escort, fully portable.
Love it!
Two things made me decide to do it (other than my ancient Passport has wheezed its last reliable signal):
1. I drive a lot of rental cars. Sunday I was coming down I-70 into Denver and a Colorado Mounty was standing on an overpass, shooting both
directions, hand-held radio at his side. I counted 7 chase cars in a two mile stretch, all working tickets.... and this on a big sweeping turn after
a very long serious downhill.
2. One of my local compatriots here in Oakdale was over on 101 by Salinas last month. Came into a 55 zone, down from 65, he got zapped (and written)
for 77.
Total ticket cost???!!!!
How about $1,100.00 (US)
End of debate.... they don't play fair, I won't either.
Headed to San Vicente in 3 weeks, the Solo 2 will be in the front windshield.

Are you serious? $1,100 is some serious money. I'm not from CA nor have I ever lived there but that seems to be a bit outrageous. I couldn't
imagine getting a $1000+ speeding ticket. Honestly If I got a ticket that cost that much $$ I'd change my license to a state that doesn't share
DMV info with CA dmv. It's just so F'n outrageous that I can't believe people would put up with it.

I could not believe it either.
But I saw the ticket.
The speeding portion was $870 and they added on because his insurance and reg. papers in the vehicle did not jibe.
(This in a 2005 Suburban, company car, licensed and insured to the max.)
Last year I had a friend who was stopped just South of there on 101, charged with 79 in a 55.
They would not let him plead or post by mail or by proxy.
He was required to drive nearly 300 miles each way to make personal court appearance. (But, he fooled 'em> up and died of a heart attack at age 48
just before his court date.....)

Go before a judge. Explain the scenario, chances are the fine will be lower.

The part I like is that they don't really know who they zapped -- and certainly can't prove it. My V1 manual says they just ticket the first person in
a line of cars that they assume are going the same illegal speed.
Hey, how does this RD compare to a Valentine One -- in cost and features?

Solo 2- I love you!!
Just 20 miles short of completing our 2.5 day, 1400 mile dash down to San Vicente and back my new unit gave a single chirp, just as I crossed into our
county (Stanislaus) on 99.
I had been running a steady 80 since Bakersfield, backed off and dropped into the center lane.
The van running just behind me wheeled on past, the Solo 2 started screeching, and BAM, a bright white CHP unit rolled past me and nailed the van.
Love it!!
