I know nothing about squid, but I do know about loss, and Im sorry about yours sharksbaja. Mine was a long time ago, and to be honest I seldom thing about it anymore. I don't know if thats good or bad. And if Osprey's story was just a story, it was still a good one.

as far as that goes....

Thanks. Thankfully, time helps heal wounds. It was a long time ago.

I thought I knew more than I did about "Flying Squid" but I was always under the impression for some reason that all these scary stories were made up. The sea serpent really does exist!

When Alex was younger I often had these daydreams that would terrify me. They were never the same but each was the same. I would see us in the sea struggling to stay afloat. He would have his arms around my neck and I knew that as long as I stayed afloat he was OK. Eventually I grew weaker and started to slip away. I would see him struggling for air. A cold sweat would come over me as I fought to stop this train of thought. "What the hell is wrong with me" I wondered. Why am I torturing myself with these thoughts?

Like I said, there were different dreams. Sometimes Alex was attacked by sharks and I wasn't fast enough. Other times he fell from heights. Always there was the horror.

I finally went to a friend of mine who was also a priest. I started to tell him one of my visions and before I was halfway through the story he finished it for me. He had two daughters and said those same visions came to him and frightened him and he told me that it was just a part of being a parent. Your children are your greatest love in life and, at times, you have this paralyzing, mortal fear of losing them.

I guess what I am trying to say, bajaden, is that although I have never lost a son as you did, I do, through my nightmares, know something of what you must have gone through. Every parent does. Perhaps it's best to leave the past alone. But I have to tell you when I read your post about that tragedy it changed my whole mood for this thread.

Your story never got the attention it deserved on this forum. But I just wanted you to know it got a lot of my attention.

Thanks for your response Joe. Its actually a subject a lot of people don't like to talk about. It wasn't until I was able to talk about it and actually relive it in my mind, something I couldn't do for years, that I could live with it. Your right though, it is a nightmare.
