El Rosario

About 20 years ago I had a friend who had a house in El Rosario. I used to have access to a lot of const. stuff including a lot of paint.(earthtone of course). I would give this stuff to Roberto who would take it to El Rosario.

One of the things we used to notice about El Rosario was the number of satellite dishes on the homes there. We used to joke that a truck with the dishes must have crashed near there as not many people had tv's, just the dishes.

El Rosario was a dusty little village and all the houses were whatever color they could find which is typical of any Mexican Village and one of the things I like about down here.

My first visit to Robertos home was on a fishing trip. When we first pulled into Robertos area, we noticed how clean everything was. And everything was painted. Including the rocks, trees, houses, streets, satellite dishes, everything. All the same color. I had temporarily turned El Rosario into Orange County. OOPS!

Anyways, on to the fishing part. We towed the Zodiak out to Agua Blanca where they launch their boats. Unfortunately the motor had come down off the pins somewhere along the road and I broke off half the fin and a good portion of 2 of the propellor blades. I was bummed!

We are checking this devastating turn of events out when the fishermen come over. They tell us "no problem, check out our props". Agua Blanca is a rocky beach where you have to time your launching/landings just right. This isn't always possible and their props were good evidence of this. They looked the same as mine! And they used them every day.

So, we launch the boat and head off towards Isla San Geronimo. We were able to get up on a plane although vibrating a lot because of the out of balance prop. No big deal except Roberto is constantly complaining about being in a boat full of air rather than a panga. He is drinking brandy and getting drunk.

About half way to the island, we ran into some diver friends of his and they convince us to fish there while sharing "supplies".

After about a half hour, our ice chest was full of fish but Roberto being drunk, put's his lure through the pontoon. Now we have a leak. So after convincing Roberto it is not a good idea to swim the 5 miles back to shore and that we really need him to hold his thumb over the hole in the boat, we head in.:light:

We make it back to shore, get the boat back on the trailer and someone takes off with our ice chest full of fish. I'm already mad at Roberto and all he will say is "don't worry about it". Jerk!

So, I messed up my motor, got a hole in the boat, put up with a drunken lout for the last few hours, and our fish is gone:fire: At least we had fun catching so many!

Upon returning to El Rosario, Roberto has me go to a neighbors house instead of his. No explanation or anything, "just go here' because we are fighting.

I park and we walk around to their palapa where they have a huge tractor disk sizzling with frying fish. Not flying fish. Apparently, they keep this (Wok) burning and whoever brings in fish donates to the meals.

Well, we ate fish for days. Don't know how much or if any was our fish but it sure didn't matter. Whenever we were hungry, stop by, grab some tortillas and fish and provecho!

It's hard to stay mad with a belly full of fish and a bunch of Pacificos!
Good ending to what could have been considered a bad trip! Viva Baja!!

Actually,

Roberto was from Puerto Rico originally but he was my neighbor in San Juan Capistrano. The DEA used to visit his house on occasion but that is a different story:O
He is a cool dude but definitely likes to party. On another trip down there, we were having tacos in town. He was drinking brandy. While driving us back to his house, he opened the door of his truck and fell out.
Fortunately, because of my quick thinking :lol::lol: we got the truck safely stopped, went back to get him, threw his drunken arse in the back and got him home safely.:lol:
Great fisherman though. He used to supply our entire neighborhood with crabclaws and fish regularly.
