U.S. FBI gives Baja cops computers and SUV

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/metro/20050715-9999-2m15b...

To help their Mexican counterparts in the fight against narco-terrorism and other cross-border organized crime, San Diego FBI officials Wednesday announced the donation of 20 Dell computers and a 2002 Cadillac Escalade to Baja California law enforcement.

The office equipment was previously used by the FBI's Regional Computer Forensic Laboratory, which provides forensic computer expertise to law enforcement. The lab recently got new equipment and a decision was made to donate the used computers and monitors, valued at $10,000, to Mexican law enforcement.

In addition, Kathy Leodler, assistant agent in charge of the San Diego FBI office, said the Escalade, seized in a San Diego-based federal drug investigation, would be donated to Baja California officials. The SUV was used in cross-border drug smuggling and is valued at about $40,000.

Leodler said the donation is evidence of a "seamless border" when it comes to the cooperation between U.S. and Mexican law officials.
