Whale Sharks?

Have the whale sharks made it to Bahia de Los Angeles yet? I didn't see any mention of it on Gecko's web-site.

Sorry about that, Santiago...I'm okay now. Here's your whale shark.

Johnny Tequila took this photo for me in the summer heat of 1990...Coyote Bay, Bay of Conception. It swam underneath his trimaran and he got a short ride jumping from his Zodiak.

I will try to behave.

Doc is usually pretty good about reporting them on his site when they are there. As you said, Santiago, his current "Camp News" doesn't mention them but the current one is almost a month old (dated August 1). Maybe someone from Bahia knows. Some are usually there by late August. It has been my experience that October is the best month.

Mike
Doc told me that they are there as early as June and as late as December. He said the population seems to peak in October. I have been there twice now to photograph the whale sharks, once in July, once in October. That's not a very extensive sampling, but I can confirm Doc's observations. There were many more individual sharks in the bay in October.

We were there Aug. 16-20, and no sign of the whale sharks. We did look, and ask around, but they were so far not to be found.
