PHOTO: This critter gave consent!
So I was told!
Can anyone else share a photo of a Babisuri?
This was taken in 1999 on Isla San Jose by 'Alejandra de Baja'. Babusuris are a type of 'ring tailed cat' native to the Baja Sur Cortez islands. This
one was made into a village pet after being caught invading a kitchen in one home.

I don't have pictures but I have more info. They are also called cacomistle. The Indian word for that means "half puma". Around here they are
called "mapache" which the Mexicans think are raccoons. At the little zoo in Santiago they had a raccoon -- the cage plaque said "mapache" I doubt
if you would learn from any local ranchero that he has seen babisuri or ringtail cats.

Locals say they are very tasty although I never tried. Mapache machaca=mapchaca?
This one is in Costa Rica:

Synch, don't do that to me. I'm already confused. That's a coati mundi. A ringtail cat weighs about 8 lbs, a racoon 40 lbs, a coati somewhere in
between.
