48 years are not so bad--ho ho
Well folks,
I am abandoning my post, I have stood by Don Jimmy since he checked into this wonderful place, the VA Hospital in La Jolla, getting sdetracked but all
of the people who work here are dedicated to the guys and gals who end up her flat on their backs. They treat the vets like they are gods---and you
know they are close!
Anyway, I spend my last four hours with the Don and had a tear in my eye when I left him with Dave and Travis Deal. He asked if I would be up to see
him off tomorrow and I said NO! Char and Chuck and the nurses would be very busy getting the Don ready for the long trip south.
I didn't tell him that Lu Ann and I would be heading south to celebrate our 48 anniverary. Got to be in Baja when warm and fuzzy things are
happening.
Watch for Jimmy in a yellow Nission Pathfinder, driven by a beautiful woman, and towing a trailer with medical supplies dangling off the sides.
Damn't it Jimmy, Lu Ann and I love you! So go with god! Smile when you get home and call us!

You are right - the VAMC in La Jolla is one of the best hospitals I have ever seen, and the people there are just fantastic. If that isn't an
appropriate way to thank the veterans for their service, I don't know what is!

Do you remember when VA hospitals used to have a bad rep?
My father in law passed away in a VA hospital 6 years ago. That's actually the good part of the story. After languishing in a regular hospital with
lousy care for months till his private insurance ran out, he was booted out and moved to the VA hospital, which he dreaded cause he'd heard horror
stories over the years about it. Low and behold, he got treated better there by a country mile. He still passed away a couple of months later, but
felt he was in the hands of people who genuinely cared when he did. - Stephanie

Out of La Jolla at noon, crossed the border at 2pm, no problems with the aduana. The only problem we had was finding Dern and Paulina's house. The car
is running good, but overloaded. Probably be in San Ignacio Springs tomorrow night. Spent most of the afternoon off of oxygen! I'm doing great! That's
about the size of it.
I appreciate all the correspondence.

I hope jimmy has a great trip but I want to salute barb and matt who have opened their home (and prized tequila collection) to several of us Nomads
when circumstances found us in SD for extended periods. I know they hosted some folks special to Jimmy while he was in the VA hospital and want to
let everyone know that they are above and beyond in all respects.

Otro Lado. I cannot even express the kindness shown me by them. Of course along with Jeans making the connection and hauling my fanny around, same
with Bernie playing my taxi and a shoulder to lean on, Capt. Mike tracking stuff for Dad and always there with reassurance and of course Doug
himself for providing this fourm and the computer that kept me abreast of my world here while I had to be there. Y'All made all the difference in my

Hauling your fanny around was a pleasure. My drive shaft went out the next day  ,
but I'm sure there's no connection (remember that little vibration? Oh well...it's only money )

For those of you who have not met Eli or Sally you have missed a real treat--Quite a Lady and a wonderful daughter. Driving Sally around is to be
regaled with her real Baja attitude toward life. Jeans and I were lucky we were chosen for the pleasure.
Again, you wonderful people have proved my saying--"Amigos de Baja, People helping people"
Guess Jimmy had us all conned at the hospital--now he tells us that he spend half a day without the oxygen that Chuck Potter broke his back in
getting. Jimmy hope you don't have to use the rest of it.
