Costco, Ensenada report

Stopped at Costco on the way down to Mulege, last Thursday morning....

they open at 9 AM...

If you shop there, don{t pass up the Shrimp c-cktail, back in the meat and deli dept...it comes in 1 kilo tubs, and is GREAT. It was priced at NP 143.34 per kilo, and includes large, devained, shrimp in mild c-cktail sause...Yummy

We also bought Pacifico in cans at NP 129.27 per 24 case plus 10% IVA...that works out to about 57 cents, US per can. They are the 340 ml, 11.5 oz cans, but still a bargin and cheaper than Tecate!

Also a good buy was the Jumex Jugo de Naranja in 1 litro boxes, 4 boxes packed together for NP 29.67 total.

Herradura Antiguo 950 ml, 38% Reposado tequila was NP 181.35 plus 10% IVA

Centenario Axul Reposado, 950 ml, 35% was NP110.67 plus IVA

Mexican Bacardi Blanco, 1.75 lt, 40% was NP 123.69 plus IVA

Lots of good stuff to pick up there in that new Costco.

BTW, Pemex was NP 6.12 per lt...cheaper that back home in Norte California!

Weather here in Mulege area is high 80s, with clear skys today, and a slight breeze ' just about right!

Hasta

Hose you just reminded me of a question I had. I have about 200 dvd's and so I loan them out to friends who haven't seen them. Some of my friends are mexican. Some of my dvd's play on their players, and some don't. I've had to loan my dvd player to Omar just so he can see the movies. Does anyone know what the deal is on this?

On this same note. One of my movies is "Spanglish". I found it interesting that the only languages available on it were english and french. Duh. Who decided that one?

Thank you for the info.
I'm up in the free world right now for a checkup and thought I would stop a that Costco on the way home to Mulege next week.
Again, Thank You Very Much

Regions

It's pretty common for various DVD players to not play other region DVDs. Something to look for when you're buying one if you
anticipate playing foreign region disks.

I have a number of Cyber Home DVD players (9) that sell at Walmart for $37.00. Excellent players, but they are listed as able to play either "All Region" DVDs or "Region 1" only. No problem in my case.

Den
We rented Spanglish and it had Spanish subtitles. Pretty good insight into Spanish speaking people trying to integrate into American society, I thought. We always use the Spanish subs in hopes that we might learn something.
If you buy your DVD player here...no problema with rental movies.

Get the Philips dvp642 progressive player. Plays all regions and all codecs. Walmart sells them, as do most retailers.

Excellent piece of equipment.

Another thing to be careful of; There are two different DVD formats, DVD+ and DVD-. Sort of like Beta and VHS. Also like Beta and VHS, one will not play on the other machine. However, there are machines that do play both (that is what they mean by "All Formats").

Currently the predominant one in the US is DVD-. I'm not sure which one is the most used in Mexico.

So make sure you get a machine that either handles DVD- or both.

A bit off subject but:

Why is it that CDs that I rip won't play in my factory car player?

The reason for the rental or bought "regional specific" DVDs will/won't play is copyright legal reasons.

All Format as noted above is for home recorded stuff.

Well, thanks guys, I think I learned more that I needed to know. You gotta love the world of high tech. Remember those days, when you would carefully slide that weight out on the arm to get the needle presure just right. I felt so professional.
