The only way to do it safely is to buy a tarjeta at one of the many cell phone kiosks. It's 50cents a minute and you just stuff it into any pay phone. Simple, cheap, and no unexpected charges when you get home.

Used an MCI calling card in Loreto, cvame to 35 cents a minute...Have to get the proper codes before you leave states..

Stephanie: Have them buy a Ladatel card for $10. It is good in most of the phones they will find. Simplest way to do it.
