Earth quake and lots of seismic activity at Tres Vergens volcano
Any one heard any thing about what is going on up there?

about 23000 years ago. but it is on a 20000 year cycle so it is about 3000 years late. they have been monitoring it for some time and I guess there
are experts coming from all over the world.

bruce we were at our place in bola when the earthquake hit and allmost knocked me too the ground. there were at least two more to follow. will give a

The Jesuit padres reported an eruption in 1746... Of all the volcanos on the peninsula, this is the most recently active.

I thought that there was an island up near Santa Rosalia that had an semi active volcano on it....is this bad information?

...If you look at the maps shown here:

...you can see all the recorded quake activity since 1990 - and I see NO quake 'dots' in the area you asked about - up at Tres Virgenes area - which
would be directly north of the notation on the name 'Santa Rosalia'.
Looks to me like most of the larger 'shakers' are along the fault lines in the Cortez de Mar.
It looks like Baja continues to move farther away from the Mexican Mainland every year...perhaps to fall away into the Pacific Ocean along with Los
Angeles at some future date...Don't think I'll worry about it for now...

The recreational value of Volcanic activity is not without risk. Harry Truman elected to stay home and weather the eruption of Mount Saint Helens. He
hunkered down at his place on Spirit Lake and waited to see the lava flow. Spirit Lake is also history.

Judy, many of the islands are volcanic... the one off Santa Rosalia is Tortuga and I believe a satellite photo was posted showing the dramatic crater.
Just north of Bahia San Luis Gonzaga is Isla San Luis whose crater is half submerged. National Geographic said it could come back to life. Just south
of Mexicali is Cerro Prieto volcano... steam from geothermal heat makes electricity on the south side of it. They are working on the same kind of
project at Tres Virgenes... a paved road leads north form Hwy. 1 to it.

Hey Tim-
The volcanologist in your linked article was stranded with us for a couple of weeks at "Campo Pemex", along with your brother-in-law
! (during the 1993 El Ni?o bridge wash-outs in San Quint?n)
At the time, Dr Hausback was coming back from studying the Virgenes area where he was trying to discover the source of the extensive lava beds on the
south side of the highway. He said that the lava south of the hwy was completely different than the stuff from the volcanos and it was a mystery where
it had originated.
Maybe Reggie remembers him too.

we have felt 4 earth quakes here in the last 15 days and none of them are on any of those maps????

...according to the maps, there have been 6 'shakers' in the last week, all near that same spot in the middle of Cortez de Mar, NE of Santa
Rosalia...and are no doubt the ones you have been feeling.
