Dredging La Paz for cruise ships?

What's this I hear? Are they going to become a Port-o-Call?

I'm sorry.I hope that Loreto doesn't become one also.

Cruise ships

Loreto has been a port of call for at least three different cruise lines for some time now. Another started visiting here yesterday, from Germany.

Actually the large cruise ships have been coming to La Paz for several years. They cannot enter the bay past the Pemex plant and disgorge their clients out at Pichilingue on the other side of the little harbor from the Ferry terminal. The dredge appears to be at Marina Palmira entrance. The entire bay channel is kept open by tidal forces and is filled with sand bars and very shallow areas. Sailboats that draw 6 feet or so commonly (weekly) run aground. What appears to be a large bay is, in fact, just a couple of channels that vary in width. Full moon/new moon tides reduce further any navigation room. There are some smaller (100 ft) cruise ships that come in to the municipal pier and the outside of Marina de La Paz, but they have, at times, been grounded on a low tide. I suspect that a full-sized cruise ship entering the city of La Paz would end up as an attraction like the container ship in Ensenada.
