Cruise ships to Abreojos???

Some folks cruising on a sailboat reported that Abreojos plans to build a harbour where cruise ships will come. Sounds crazy to me as I gaze out onto the formidable wild pacific surf that powerfully crashes upon our west coast shores but I was wondering if anyone else has heard this and if there are any nomads in Abreojos?

Shari

There are a couple of us that live in Abreojos. At least part time.

The report of a marina comes up periodically. There are a couple of protected areas around the point south of town where boats layover off shore. I haven't heard of a full fledged harbour for cruise ships.

Shari

Is the coast road from Abreojos to Asuncion open. In March I was told that it was washed out. Locals were having to go out to the Hiway and back into Asuncion or Tortugas.

Haven't made that trip in about 4 years and was thinking of doing it again this summer.

abreojos was one of the original areas listed to get a marina in the ladder project ,not for cruise ships but for vessels to use on there way north and south along the coast. i believe they droped it out of the list a few years ago along with caterina . will se how rosalaitta does with its new harbor. the darn thing keeps filling up with sand, go figure.

Changes

I would imagine that Abreojos has changed dramatically since I last saw it in February of 1977, along with everywhere else North and South of the Border. On that trip to Scammons Lagoon and Malarrimo Beach, we were running two days late and stopped in Abreojos to send a telegram home. However, it was Sunday and the Telegraph office was closed so we headed on to San Ignacio. Abreojos was a small, sleepy fishing village at that time.

There is a dirt road from bahia asuncion to Abreojos and it is definately open. There are some nasty bits of washboard but it is maintained on occasion (like when the governor visits!) It is a lovely trip along the coast but usually results in a flat tire or two! Luckily there are tire shops in the villages. It passes through several villages and if ya pass through San Hippolito, stop in and say hi to my sister in law and her family...Tita, Bimbo and her 3 sons who can also show you where to dive and surf!
