BAHIA ASUNCION TRADITIONAL FIESTAS

Whew, it was rough but we survived the FIESTAS here in Asuncion. The highlights were a visit from the Governor who enjoyed partying with the locals and dancing with the ladies, a big fishing tournament for yellow tail, halibut and mero which a local rancher won much to all the fishermen's dismay! The dances were epic and we danced to great bands till daybreak. The horse races were exciting as always, complete with a live band, dancing and lots of pretty horses, and the rodeo's best moment was when one of the bulls threw it's rider and charged at and jumped over the wall and escaped into the desert. Other events included beach volleyball, rides for the kiddies, car races and on the last day the statue of the virgin Asucnion gets paraded around town and even gets a panga ride around the island. So even she has a good time at the fiestas. It's a really fun week here and this year the only gringos were our 2 surfer buddies from Colorado who had a wonderful time. Our 2 nephews were the escorts of the Queen and runner up so they got lots of photos with the crowned beauties and danced like crazy. I hope next year some of you will drop in and join in the festivities.
