AFI at San Ysidro crossing!

Coming back into Mexico at 4pm the AFI had agents stationed about 200 ft South of the gate. Checking all traffic headed South. Don't know what/who they were looking for and didn't care to ask. ;D

Did a brief look through of my car and waived me on.

Also: There is an AFI checkpoint just north of the Rosarito toll gate for ALL traffic headed North. These guys are hardcore. No jokes, keep the conversation to a minimum and DON'T get caught with ANY contraband. They've got some kind of contraption on what looks like the space station grappling arm. Don't know what it's for but it looks hi-tech.

AFI- Agencia Federal de Investigaci?n

They're like our FBI and DEA rolled into one.

Shame on you!--Funny!

I ran across these guys going north at the old Rosarito toll booth a couple of weeks ago-- and Dave is right--they are not wet behind the ears kids.
All I would every say to them is "Yes, Sir" and be out of there. Had the feeling that they would kill at the drop of a hat.

When I saw them they were in dull grey uniforms--similar to the Mexican Navy

Yeah, I had a few words of my own that would have fit in there on AFI...but thanks for the clean up and info! There has been a checkpoint just north of the Rosarito toll booth for a while now...is that the same one or another one? A year ago or so there was check point south of the first toll booth if memory serves, but that was strictly agricultural.

The ag thing was on the old road. And the Army did inspections at the old toll booths where the new, bad, guys are now.
Is the Army still missing down south?

They wear dark baseball jackets with AFI printed on the back. Just like our FBI and DEA. I don't think they have an official uniform.

I saw the same AFI group at the military inspection near Rosarito last Sunday while heading back home. They waved us through no problem and I did notice the large vehicle parked to the right with the retractable arm and an x-ray machine (I would assume?). When we were about to get in line at San Ysidro two AFI vans came up from behind going really, really fast with lights flashing and sirens wailing trying to get through all of the traffic. Since I had never seen the AFI before it was a little unnerving but they seemed to be in a big hurry after someone.

They were in force at the old Rosarito toll both (northbound) on Monday of this week. Dark blue khakis, boots and FBI-style dark blue jackets with their letters on the back. Let's hope this is more than just a show of force.

Last monday (8-22-06) passing north through Rosarito on the free road and stopped at the Pemex/AM-PM just south of town. Federal Highway Police (one officer, one Teniente)were at the stop sign, appeared like they were looking for seat belt violations.

Thank God. We're now safe from deadly consequences of other people not wearing their seatbelts.

Don't get me wrong. I wear my seatbelt even when I'm parked (living through an unintended aerial maneuver in a speeding sports car will teach you that lesson). I just wonder if they're checking whether the carjackers are wearing their seatbelts too.
