Sat TV: What's legal and what's not....
I read a post or two that confused me so I'm addressing this again.
I have both DishNetwork and DirecTV satellite service here in Colorado. I was planning on taking a DirecTV receiver with me to Todos and hooking it
to a 1m dish. I've seen this done in an RV at San Pedrito RV Park and the guy said reception was fine.
Is this a legal issue in Mexico?
Should I go with a local company down there for sat TV?
I believe in supporting local services down there.
Thoughts on this?

We are building in San Felipe and EVERYONE has either Dish or DirecTV. Now, that doesn't mean it is legal, but there are all kinds of adds for locals
to even sell the equipment as well.
Who knows?

Not an Issue In Mexico
The use of Legally subscribed Dish Network or DirecTV equipment is not an issue, regardless of it's legality. As long as you've got a U.S. address to
use as the supposed receiver location, you're OK. NOBODY South of the border cares. On the other hand, Dish and DirecTV provide their U.S. service
for the U.S. only. You are not supposed to be using it South of the Border which I'm sure they'll be happy to tell you if you foolishly bring it to
their attention.
Reception is fine all the way to the tip provided you use a large enough dish. The standard dish will work well as far as Gonzaga Bay, possibly
farther, but I don't know.
Some Local Broadcast channels may not be available if they've been placed on spotbeam transponders which limit their reception to a 150 mile radius of
the focal point i.e. Denver.

If you want U.S. Tv do what you have to, Direct TV you only get east or west feeds, a lot of people have changed to dish. But in todos santos I
would plan on using a 2 meter dish most all have it here in La Paz, I know where there is one available if you need one.

It's all legal in Mexico. Your receiver will pick up all your national programming, HBO, TBS, AMC etc., but you will not pick up your local network
stations.

Local Broadcast Stations
On DISH Many, but not all, Local Broadcast stations have been moved to Spotbeam Transponders so they are no longer available even if
you have subscribed to them. The major stations in NY, Los Angeles, Denver and Others (?) are still available if you have subscribed to them. An
interesting anomaly here South of San Felipe is that the smaller L.A. local stations for the most part were moved off of the 148 satellite onto 119
eliminating the need for a second (or third) dish pointed at that satellite, but now those stations (including all three PBS) disappear during the
evening after working fine during the day. I haven't put any research into it so I'm not sure why.
