Question regarding military checkpoints, where are they????
When we traveled back (Nov 21) there was nobody maning there little bases, and from recent posts sounds like they still aren't. Where are they??
Does this often happen? Just wondering.

And after patrolling the hot spots, might be the go "Home for Christmas". There is usually less custom inspections etc during the Christmas season.

The Santo Tomas (formerly Maneadero) checkpoint was nearly deserted a couple of weekends ago as well. Just two soldiers hanging around, not manning
the checkpoint. Their landscaping is shaping up very well, however.

I have noticed this too in the last year. I don't know if I just happened to be at the right place at the right time, but I think they might be
focusing their efforts on patroling a more broad area.
Drug runners are not going to go on the main highway where everyone is. They are going to avoid those checks at all costs.
A few months ago while roaming around the coasts of south baja norte me and several buddies were driving from the catavina area to the coast. In the
middle of no where we went around a turn in a canyon in ran into several all black hummers with mexicans dressed in all black with black beanies on.
I about crapped my pants and my buddies thought we were going to die. Ends up they were some secret part of the military that intercepts drug
runners. They were super official and but polite to us. And told us to leave quickly... and we did.
Maybe this could be a reason??.... or maybe not.

Heading north today from LaPaz, the old inspection station north of LaPaz didn't have any military people around. Just an inspector that was sitting
on a bench. WE stopped. He looked at us, and waved us on. Was same for the car in front of us.

drug intercepters in black hummers.........sounds like they are on the picking them up side....I would have left quickly .....and find a place to
clean up and put on some clean jeans. I like them better in the normal uniforms myself......
