Dennis,
We also got the news of Chuy's passing. Our prayers go out to Chawa and their family. We've seen the end of an era with Chuy's passing. We'll miss Friday nights at Gordos, Sunday morning breakfasts, Crazy Hat Parties, Chili CookOffs, and initiating friends to the dreaded rattlesnake tequila. We will miss Chuy most off all.

Here's to Chuy. God's speed, our friend.

Here's a photo of Chuy and Dern's dad Joe, who also passed just a month ago while we were down in Bahia for the race. He was supposed to have gone with us.

I don't think they will have to worry about the dreaded rattlesnake hangovers from up where they are, and will have their hands full keeping a watchful eye on the rest of us...

D.E.P. Chuy y Joe

Very sad news. We were going to enter the Gordo's chili cookoff this year but it was canceled due to Chuy's illness. Everyone was looking forward to him recovering. RIP Chuy!

Paulina, sorry to read about Derns father too. What a shame. I hope you guys are OK.

We never had the opportunity to meet Chuy or eat at Gordo's; he became ill and the restaurant closed before we had the chance. We, too, were ready to enter the chili cookoff and were bummed when it was canceled; then we learned why. Our sympathies to Chuy's friends and families. Quite a loss to our little community. We do hear a relative may reopen the restaurant??? His relative, not one of ours!
