New 'foil' kayak ... fun for Baja trips?
I was reading about this new hydrafoil kayak last night and wondering if anyone has tried one on any Baja coastal trips?
It is fast!
It is a 17-footer and looks like most flat-water racing boats, but at around 10mph, it's hull rises several inches out of the drink on aluminum foils,
reducing drag and becomes what might be the fastest human-powered watercraft in history.
The kayak's two Norski designers have already clocked it at speeds just shy of the 21.28 mph record set in 1991 by a MIT pedal-powered hydrofoil.
It's spendy at $2,500...but you can win some bucks back by drag racing the ordinary kayakers down Baja-way!
It does not look like my style or speed....being of a more slow-paddle-and-look-around kind of kayaker.

I don't think I'd want to paddle hard enough to get that thing up and running and I don't see anywhere comfortable to sit.
All my childhood I wanted to be older. Now I\'m older and this chitn sucks.

Wonder how it compares with that of the Hobiecat Mirage Revolution.

Went to Google with this and they're claiming just under 17 mph with the Flyak. Doesn't look like anything but hard work to me.

IMHO, you'll lose those foils with the first hard beach landing in heavy surf.

The SAME boiling water that softens the potato hardens the egg. It's about what you are made of NOT the circumstance.
