Another FM3 question
Do you really need a letter from your local law enforcement pertaining to your "good standing" when you apply for your brand new FM3? 
Just do it!

Yes, at leat I did. But it is usually easy unless of course you have a record or are wanted by the authorities.

Here in freezing Arizona for taxes. be back for three months in Feb.
I'll email Steves phone etc. He finally got out of the hospital thursday. His son picked up his stuff last week from my house.. looks like he will
be in outpatient rehab for a couple of months.

Requirements vary depending on the office where you wil reside in Mexico.
For Loreto I have not needed a letter from law enforcement but they are easy to get if you need them; we've gotten two in the past. Could be tough
though if you have a record.
We needed a local Mexican bank statement in the past, but not for recent renewals.
I've heard some offices want to see a marriage license for married couples. Not in Loreto.
So ask for a checklist at your local Mexican office. Or do it in the states, but then be prepared for the local office to ask you to do it all over
again their way.

Don, I just had mine renewed a few days ago and they wanted the bank statement again. It seems to be different every year, but still quick and easy.
It took me a total of 10 minutes after I got the bank statement. When I got my original fm-3 at the consulate in Portland Or. a good standing paper
complete with finger prints was needed.

Good Guy Letter
The last year that I renewed my FM-3 in the U.S. at the Mexican Consulate in San Bernardino was the year that they had added the "Law Enforcement"
letter. At first, I was dumbfounded. I had never heard of such letters and was anticipating a problem.
It turned out that Law Enforcement issues such letters on a regular basis for Employers in the U.S. It is nothing more than a statement that there
are no warrants, complaints, pending charges, etc in the Local Database. They charged $10.00 each for the letter and it was available the same day.
In San Felipe (six years), I have NEVER been asked for a "Law Enforcement" letter.

Thanks everyone!
It seems that this subject is like a lot of other matters regarding "how to" in Mexico. It can vary from juristiction to juristiction, from date to
date, and from person to person- you just never know for sure! Guess for the $10 it probably wouldn't hurt to have it available just in case it was
requested.
Just do it!
