NOMAD WHALERS IN OJO DE LIEBRE
Nomad whalers setting off in search of the mighty leviathins.

Well, I think I can safely say that our first annual Nomad Whaling affair was a big success! We met at the Cazuelas restaurant where Eddy put on a
terrific seafood spread of which the mano de lion (lion's paw) scallops were the favorite. We proceeded to the lagoon to camp and got blown around
pretty good...the next day after getting totally rained out, we all decided to stay another day which was great because Sirenita came out to camp with
us too ...so we hung around the gorgeous restaurant at the lagoon and got a coffee and brandy buzz and waited out the storm. We camped in one of the
new palapas which are very nice and block the wind. And we were duly rewarded the following morning with an amazing sunrise which turned into a calm,
sunny day...we set out on the first boat in the morning and were not disappointed. We saw literally tons of whales doing all sorts of wonderful
things, spy hopping, nursing, calf play, one calf was a real showoff and I look forward to MsIflyfishes photos of that! The whales surrounded us the
whole trip and the highlight was when 2 whales breached simultaneously right beside the boat...whoa..cool! One lovely lady also hung right under us
just out of reach for a long while checking out Dianes monster lense, and Denny's huge grin! There were very few people in the lagoon, all the palapas
were free too. It was great for Sirena and I to see all our old pals out there.We all had a great time and shared lots of amazing food together...I
thank you all so much for the super birthday dinner and gifts...it was very special indeed. I can see we will have to make this an annual event. We
are back home now and rbrivers nomads are out diving and fishing. This just in...juan called from the boat and the Iowa team just scored a big yellow
tail...sorry Diver....and don't worry Iflyfish, you still hold the record!!

Shari, for next year Baja Angel and I are making plans to do the whale thing... would late March be okay... Better than late February to see calves
withs mamas?

In Ojo de Liebre the peak is in February and first week of march...then the whales say their goodbyes and head north. By mid March, most of the whales
who resided there for the winter have left and there are only some stranger whales stopping to rest. The beauty of February is that the whales in
residence there know the boat operators and trust them so you can get into a group without them spooking and swimming away. Maybe we should do a
birthday whale bash around March 3rd!
