another foto of the birthday bonitas in Asuncion

Juans says muchas gracias for all the birthday greetings.

This report is brought to you by proxy by me as Pappy Jon is busy slurping a big strawberry margarita. Today is Juan's birthday or as they say here bird day...yesterday we had a big party for him and as usual a good time was had by all. So this morning the 2 Juans set out to slay some fish and had a wonderful day not only catching lots of fish but being accompanied by dolphins and whales all day long. It was one of those amazing calm sunny days here and the 2 birthday boys had a great day on the ocean. I saved Pappy some lobster too as he'd never had it before to enjoy his birthday Asuncion style.

Bonita needs to be bled, gutted and iced to keep the meat from getting mushy. It is good sushi if taken care of properly.
If left in the sun all day it is cat food. IMO

The dark meat needs to be cut out. Marinade in Italian dressing and throw on the barby. YUM.

Those are some nice ones, too!!!

Well, sushi the first day of course or sashimi, then I just boil a big hunk for tuna salad...tuna, onions, tomatoes, celery, dill pickles and mayo all smushed together...great tortas (sandwiches). Juan's favorite is machaca which I make like this...first fry potatos cut into little teeny squares, then add onions, celery, tomatoes, peppers or whatever and add the dry tuna so it's like a hash type deal...delicious burritos. Also great in a macaroni dish...tuna caserole type thing. The animals love the dark meat you take off. All our relatives and neighbours are eating tuna today thanks to the 2 Juans!

Thank you for those other two recipes Shari.
I will give them a try.

I have a couple of questions for you.

What is the name of the camp at the whale watch place south of GN? Hopefully will get a chance to go out on the whale boats Saturday

And, what have the day/night temps been lately?
Will be going to Campo Rene starting this Sunday. May get a chance to come through Ascuncion Bay on the way home.

Thank you,

BajaBuzz

Actually the camp has no name its just Ojo de Liebre Whale Refuge and you turn right at the signs, there is a wall with a whales painted on it. Yesterday our immersion group went out and had an awesome trip, 2 hours of non stop heavy whale caressing...the kids were blown away! It has been quite cool at night and nice and warm during the day so bring a warm sleeping bag...the palapas are great for camping in in case there is wind at night but the forecast is great for the next few days, not much wind. The whales are saying their last goodbyes to the lancheros next week as most will head north now. There is a non stop parade passing our place and yesterday a crazy whale breached like 20 times in front of our house...it was sooo cool! Have a blast and stop in for a beer! We're at the bufadora (blow hole) with a sailboat and panga in front of our house at the point.

Thank you for the info. Leaving in less than 30 hrs now. Can't wait anymore.

Really looking forward to the whale watch experience.

If we come through AB we will stop by.

Thanks again for all the information that you share with the rest of us.
