Day trip to Loreto...April 22, 2007

I was in Loreto yesterday picking up 2 old freinds coming in on an afternoon flight, so after we got everything fishing-wise loaded into the pickup we thought we should drive over to Loreto Bay - or Shores or whatever it's called- and take a gander at what everybody is so hyped-up about.

So we did..and...it was kind of anti-climatic for us. It looked to me like any other snowbird wintering area. Way too close together naturally...but then, we are open country people and used to lots of breathing room. Plus I snore....

We drove around a bit....

...and lots of others were looking too. Potential buyers, I assume.

Enough sightseeing...we are hungry and thirsty..

We took Cypress's hint and found our way to 'Augies'..a friendly rooftop bistro on the malecon.

Good brew..good time...good grief, let's eat.

A nearby patron shows us a T-shirt.

The chicken and beef tacos were delicious. Waitress was very pleasant and we enjoyed our stay. Would gladly go again.

The End...back to the Bay we go.

So after they run out of beer what will they drink?
No way there will be enough water for all of that...
fresh water, that is.

(and I am a developer- but I know limitations when I see them)

Any recommendations on this place on the malecon?

I noticed the Texas barbeque sign...got me thinking about a return for ribs.

Is this the old Mission Hotel?

If so, this will a welcome restoration of an old landmark hotel in Loreto. I recall a great view of the malecon, marina, and fishing boats from the old second floor cantina.

Pompano, the restoration of the Mission Hotel is moving along at a Glacial pace. There are rumors that they are waiting for permission to add another story. There is an ordinance here that you can't build taller than the mission church. It will be great to have the hotel in business, but I hope it isn't the foot in the door to high rise construction.

Don and I haven't eaten at Mediteraneo, but we've heard that the barbeque is good, if pricey. If you come down to try it, let us know. We might just show up there too
