4x4 rental question, mex or San Diego?

Hello, Help please
I will be flying into San Diego on Feb. 24
and driving into Baja as far as Loreto.
Is it cheaper to rent in San Diego or TJ. I tried CABaja rentals but they are too expensive.

Take the bus to Loreto, and then rent a car there. If you want to stop overnight at Mulege or somewhere, you could do that too. Gas is about $2.75/gal. But if you really want to drive all the way to Loreto, rent a car in Tijuana. All the major rental companies have an office there.

We rented a minivan from Avis @ SD airport last April and October. I just checked their website and they are running the same special, you need to book online. The rate is $239.00 per week. two weeks max. I also bought Mexican insurance at the counter when I picked up. Total for one week was $406.00. Unlimited miles but the contract says you can only take the van on paved roads. Avis was the only big co. I could find that would let you take a rental all the way to Cabo from the US. Checked rates in TJ and they were higher.
also the hassle of us renting in TJ loading up and unloading. I do not know about the rates and availability for 4X4's.

Oops, Toal cost was $406.00 rental, tax and ins. Not $406.00 for just ins.
