Lest we forget!

Wandering around the internet today I ran across this on the Cabo Magic Site

Don Jimmy Cabo Magic Monday, December 29, 2003

Some people are living legends. Jimmy "The Grinning Gargoyle" Smith for example. His love for and knowledge of anything and everything concerning Mexico, with great and special emphasis on Southern Baja (Baja California Sur) is nothing short of amazing.

We received word that Don Jimmy's health continues to fail.

Here is an excerpt from Bernie Swaim, who, like Jimmy, has a love for everything Baja, and writes about it all to share and enchant others.

"... that old slinger of ink, that larger than life man who has never met a person that he didn't like is apparently about to meet a guy in the sky who he will be very comfortable with. For those of you who have known the "Don of Baja", for more than a minute, will know that he is now reaching way down deep to pull out a yarn that will have them rolling at those pearly gates.

Sara, his daughter relayed this information to me with Jimmy's request that I make these last posts for him. A man's man and a woman's, a wonderful guy he just wants to say goodbye to all of his Baja Gals and Buds..."

We say the world has been a much better place for having been graced and blessed with Don Jimmy ... Heaven and all those there will certainly enjoy Jimmy when he arrives.. Meanwhile, our prayers to family, friends and loved ones of Don Jimmy ~ Peace ~ Tommy & Lori
Lori,
I just ran across the post you did for Sara on Don Jimmy. I know I wrote it
but it still brought a tear to my eyes as I read it. None of us will ever
know just how much we lost when Jimmy wandered through those heaven gates.
I am sure that those few of us who make it will be greeted by Jimmy. I can
see him now as he hitches up his jump suit, reaches deep down--and pulls
out a story of a place he found under a errant, wandering, cloud. A place
that even the angels had forgotten existed. He will bend his head, look
through the top of his glasses, clear his throat and begin to reel us in
nice and close like a fisher of men. How comfortable!
Bernie
