Credit card fraud a major problem in Tijuana

Mexico, Dec 16, 2002 (El Financiero/SABI via COMTEX) -- Mexico's tourist destinations continue to report serious losses from credit card fraud. In the south - southeast area of the country alone, airlines are reporting losses of US$ 50,000 from this type of fraud, while a representative of Mexicana de Aviacion estimates that the country's airlines will have lost several millions of dollars this year. Mexico is one of the major countries for credit card fraud, with Cancun, Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey and Tijuana being the main areas of risk. 224 companies have joined forces to create the Comite de Auditoria y Prevencion de Fraudes, belonging to the Asociacion Internacional de Transporte Aereo. This committee is dedicated to seeking legislative and technological solutions for this problem.
