fdt and Martyman tequila trip

Martyman was one of the winers for tickets to the Expo Tequila that I was giving away and we agreed to meet at the door at 3PM, well he was running on mexican time but he finaly got there and we went in. Man oh man, tequila heaven, :wow: booth after booth after booth of tequila companies and all we had to do was ask for a taste and you can imagine, talk about mixing brands of tequila, by the time we got half way, we had to take a break and eat something, these people were giving away samples as if there was no tomorrow. Martyman and I, half way down were best of friends and so was everybody else in the event . We had a lot of fun, tasted them all, ate tacos, drank clamatos campechanos from la 20 who had a booth there http://clamatosla20.com/ and at the end Martyman purchased a beautiful bottle of Espolon from an artisan tequila distributor, and he also took home some great mexican candy.

Yes it is all true!! Tijuana was a lot of fun. I was only in Mexico for 5 hours so a very short trip report.
Fernando was awesome. We tried around 30 (20-40) different tequilas mostly reposados and anejos. I've become more of a reposado guy as a few of the anejos are so woody you practically are spitting out splinters. Don't get me wrong...I am not complaining. Just trying to give an accurate culinary sensation critique. The tastes were about 1/3 of a shot with most of the booths pouring blanco, reposado and anejo. The one I picked, Espolon is excellent sipping on ice. Most of the tequilas I had not heard of (no Herradura, Cuervo, Don Julio, Sauza), my horizons are expanding!!
I'm glad there were no cameras as i did get a hug from a beer girl in a metallic bikini.
The taxi ride ($4usd) was uneventful with about 30 minute wait in the walkover line.
For food we had crickets, salted dried garlic and seafood c-cktails with a beer poured in it and of course tacos.
I must again thank Fernando for the great hospitality. We had a blast!
