RV airconditioner cover

I am attempting to think of a way to prevent the A/C cover on my Baja trailer from being damaged by sun exposure. They are expensive to replace every few years. It has been covered most of the time. Wondering if removing cover and spraying with some sort of silver tar material would help. Any suggestions from you Baja folks. Covers are plastic I think. It is a Duo=Therm unit.
