The Final 10 Baja Missions (Part 2 of the revised Baja Mission web site)
Last night, I started making Part 2 and got San Fernando Velicata and both El Rosario mission sites posted ... There are now links on Part 1 that

A copy of Michael Mathes' Baja Missions book arrived today, so now I have one more source of data to cross check and help provide the most accurate
factual data on the mission history of Baja California...
The idea on the Baja Missions web page is to provide you with the basic data of dates and location for each mission... More details can be found in
the books I am using to compile all the data.
I highly recommend everyone interested in the missions of Old California (Baja California) to get Edward Vernon's book 'Las Misiones Antiguas: The
Spanish Missions of Baja California'... http://bajacaliforniamissions.com for more details beyond the basic stuff I am putting on the web pages. Dave Werschkul's book 'Saints and Demons
in a Desert Wilderness' is also good with a fresh look at the horrible treatment of the California natives... primarily by the Dominicans... and the
excellent road guide and GPS data for all the mission sites.

When I am finished, I will post on the Historic Interests forum and the web pages will be moved to VivaBaja.com with a new URL.

Did a lot of work on Part 2 today adding maps, more missions and the revised list of the final 10 missions. I also made a small change to Part 1 to
help understand how the La Paz mission became the Todos Santos mission and the Santa Rosa mission (at Todos Santos) became the La Paz mission without
ever leaving Todos Santos!  
You see, this mission history stuff IS fun!

Okay... I finished the web page as far as having all 10 of the last missions featured... Perhaps some minor tinkering or ? Descanso and Guadalupe
added today!

Juan Bautista Londo, La Presentacion, San Jose de Magdalena, El Novillo, Angel de la Guarda, San Jacinto, San Pablo, Santa Ana, San Juan de Dios (may
use yours, too), San Isidoro, and San Telmo.

David what about Visita San Miguel.. BCS? it was located about 20 miles south of San Jose de Comonndu

David K you sure can use them if you need them. I have a couple of others that show a gravesite. It's ashame the Mission at Rancho Tres Palmas
(Visitas) was plowed over. A Damn Shame.

Visita de San Miguel is just 2 miles from San Jose Comondu, in San Miguel Comondu... It is one of the visitas that often gets called a mission...
specially from 1730-1736 when a priest was stationed there learning the native languages,and performing baptims... but, it was NOT a mission. It was a
visita of Mision San Francisco Javier (San Javier) until Mision San Jose de Comondu moved to within 2 miles of San Miguel in 1737. At that time, San
Jose de Comondu took over that visita from San Javier.
I am working on the visita web page now... and while I don't have any photos of San Miguel, it will get mentioned!
Look for photos of: Londo, Presentacion, San Jacinto, Novillo, San Pablo... Say, Jose... can you email me the one you have of Santa Ana, and I will
use it?

Visita San Juan de Dios Historic Site Destroyed
July, 2000 (David K)... shown to me by Soni Espinoza:
A room dividing wall. Beyond note the square pits which were rooms in this long building. Picture facing NNW, note some of the date palms near the
arroyo and pools. Adobe is built on stone foundation. Some plaster/ paint is visible on inside walls! (7-25-00)
This was the largest room, in the middle of the long building ruins. This visita served Mision San Fernando in the early 1800's. (7-25-00)
