SATURDAY! Los Gordos (La Bufadora) Annual Chili Cook-Off & Salsa Contest

Saturday, August 21, starting time is 12 noon in La Bufadora. Lots of Nomads will be there!

Time is flying by! Saturday, August 21, 2010 is the date to head for La Bufadora and participate by cooking or tasting (or both) in the 15th Annual “Anything Goes” Chili Cook-Off sponsored by Los Gordos Restaurant. You have plenty of time to gather your teams and test your recipes on your friends and neighbors.

In addition to the chili cook-off there will be a Salsa Contest (the food, not the dance – well, maybe there’ll be some dancing later in the day.) There will be cash prizes for the best chili, best salsa and best booth.

Schedule of Events:
10:00 a.m.Chili Competitors may set up (if you set up before we do, we may have to ask you to move your booth, so be cautioned)
12:00 noon Official cooking start time (READ THE RULES)
1:00 p.m. all salsas must be presented at registration by 1:00 p.m.
1:30 p.m. Salsa judging – (we provide the chips)
2-2:30 p.m. Salsa results announced
3:00 p.m. Chili judging and tasting by the public begins (for the general public: please do not approach the booths for tasting before 3:00)
3:30ish Chili results announced
After that…just party on!

Spectators can sample all the chili and salsas entered for just $1 (spoons and bowls provided). Tickets for the on-going drawing may also be purchased, 6 tickets for $5. Tasting and judging starts at 3:00 but come early and stay late!

CHILI RULES: $15 entry fee per chili (you can enter as many recipes as you’d like), must provide all of your own supplies, food, tables and utensils for cooking. And a 5 star recommendation from those who’ve competed in the past– BRING YOUR OWN SHADE! All cooking must be done on the premises outside. Beans may be pre-soaked, other items may be pre-chopped. Canned goods may be used but not opened before the official 12:00 noon start time. Plan to make at least 4 quarts of chili (250 samples). ANYTHING GOES. International chili cook-off rules do not apply!

SALSA RULES: $7 entry fee per salsa. There are two categories of salsa: hot and regular. Salsa may be pre-made and bring 2 pints to the cook-off.

No need to pre-enter for either – just come and have a good time. For more info (not that there is more), contact Vince and Kathleen Taormina at 152 0090 or bajakt@gmail.com OR Nancy Crow and Keith Thomas at 152 0144 or crowbaja@gmail.com
