Rosarito-Ensenada Fun Bike Ride - Sept 25

Traffic Alert! The Bike Ride is Saturday. The Free Road will be closed and the Toll Road (southbound) will be backed up. If you're stuck in that traffic, I'll wave as I go by on my bike

You forgot the poster- maybe the T-Shirts will be the same design.

Best of luck for a fast, safe ride to BB2005 and all this Saturday. And good call/warning on traffic Saturday afternoon from toll booth all the way to downtown Ensenada. Either get past downtown(or parked there) well before noon or hang somewhere north like La Mision until 4-ish.

yes, the posters, t-shirts and jerseys all have that design for the bicentennial. The ride is an "official" bicentennial event. Unfortunately, the PC crowd doesn't like the design with the "national heroes" riding bikes. Quite the brouhaha over it!

But don't criticize the posters, etc., out loud. I got an earful when I posted an item on the ride organizers' Facebook page, merely excerpting an AFN article that mentioned a few Mexican groups who found the theme offensive (picture Washington and Lincoln on bikes). Not only was I accused of being rude, negative and insensitive, I was also "unfriended" from their FB page. BFD, but it was kinda funny.

That wouldn't offend me in the least as long as their pants were zipped up. Gawwwd....some of these people can be as ridiculous as Muslims with their Koran.

I mentioned somewhere before that it would probably be a non-issue to the Mexicans if the poster was printed in Spanish. It does kind of look like a US promotor has co-opted their heroes.

Mexican art is usually in your face and very unsubtle.

The posters are actually designed and printed by the organizers of the ride in Mexico - they are actually based in Mazatlan.

If any Nomads are interested in riding, we do have a few comped entries that we would be happy to share. Send me a U2U!

Party after the race is at Hotel Corona, just south of the flag. Music, food and beverages will be abundant. $12 t-shirt, $60 bicycle jersey will be on sale.

I want to give a quick shout-out to thank BajaGeoff for dropping by our house today to give us two free ride entries for my nephew and his policeman friend. That is a whole days pay for each of them and they are blown away by the generosity of a Nomad. They were just going to tag along behind the pack tomorrow- now they can do the ride and really enjoy it. On top of that Geoff is a really great guy, put up with my six labs- and it was a pleasure to finally meet a Nomad in person. I doubt the rest of you are all this nice though... LOL

Thanks Wooosh! It was great meeting you as well, and we were happy to provide the ride entries for your nephew and his friend.

I got a lot of great photos of the ride...there were some great costumes this time around. I posted up at Campo Cortez (near K38) and spent an hour shooting photos as the riders went by.

It's hard to say, but it sure seemed like there was more than the 5,000 they were anticipating. I took pictures for over an hour as the packs of bikers made their way south, and they were still coming by after I left.

Great shots of "Toll Road Jesus" for those who've never seen it.
