Pnta. Blanca via San Antonio road.
Has anyone taken the road past San Antonio to Punta Blanca and the rest of the Seven Sisters recently? I'm planning on going that way next time.
(Maybe Oct./Nov. if anyone is interested.) I've been in from the North a few times via Punta Canoas and via San Jose, and I've come up from the South
via Santa Rosalilita. This time I'd like to try from the East. If you have any words of wisdom or advice, I'd appreciate it.

That's the one road into Blanca I haven't tried yet--we're heading into the area possibly in september--if we go that route I'll post the info.
What I have heard from Myron Smith, who drove it in 1986ish was that it is quite beautiful in parts, but also there,s a few pretty bad spots to get
through, including some stairsteps that are just the wrong size for trucks.....if Taco de Baja reads this thread he can fill in--I think he was with
Myron on that trip.

Look for an answer from 4baja in the morning. He told me he came across on the San Antonio road heading east (to L.A. Bay), last year I think.
However, of interest, there is an unmapped fork that short cuts you to Hwy. 1 near the L.A. Bay hwy. junction, Steve told me about.
I do have the original road junction GPSed (south of Chapala) on my GPS web page (click on my notebook for link).
Also, a road goes from Laguna Chapala to the coast now, see it head west between the two Chapala restaurants. The Baja 1000 was going to use it, but
rain made it impassable so they used several miles of Hwy. 1 instead.

Thanks for the info. If I get there before you do Mexitron, I'll let you know how the road looks. Also, that's interesting to hear about the road
from Chapala... may have to check it out.

We drove most of that road from chapala about 3 years ago....but like David K said it may still be impassable if it got too much rain.

the road to san antonio is about 45 miles soth of catavina west, you reach the ranch shortly after and its filled with palm trees and a few old adoby
casas with running water near by. i would be very carefull useing this road without another 4x4 following as it is very rough with alot of large rocks
and boulders over the mesa. when you get to the bottem its a great road with tall cardons on both sides all the way to the beach wich is south of
blanco. next december we will do it on 2 quads and camp at the rancho for the knight, should be alot of animal life to see in the evening.

Thanks for the update. Sounds like a good alternate route to take to the coast. I've seen the part of the road that leads down to the beach. I
believe it comes out just north of the estuary at the south end of Bahia Blanca. Nice area. Think that will be the next road to explore for me.

on my tip, some friends tried the chapala route-they stopped and asked the locals about it-they told it it wasn't too good, and not used really at all
anymore.after two hours or so of rock crawling they gave up and used another route,they said it was the worse road they had been on.(note-they had two
wheel drive trucks)it actually sounded like a fun way to go myself, but to each his own....

You know pappy, satellite photos shows a lake (with water in it) between Chapala and the coast. That 'new' road would be the closest access to this
formerly 'unexplored' lake. If SCORE was going to use it for last year's 1000, it couldn't be that bad... afterall, they now seem to prefer graded and
smooth roads for the Trophy Trucks and VWs both. Only the heavy rain before the race forced a detour to the pavement (instead of adding more dirt
miles)! BillB showed me that 'Lost Lake' on his special satellite program two years ago...
Who knows, maybe the Loch Ness monster has a cousin in Baja?

I've been as far as the "lakes"--just more seasonal basins--almost always dry.
