A Baja Ghost Story

Living in Baja, we encounter lot's of different people and unusual incidents. Here's one.
A couple moved into the house above ours and we became friends. She was a tough New Yorker and he was a pretty mild mannered guy from Kansas. They had been married a long time and were quite wealthy.
We became very good friends during the 3 years they lived here and spent most of our time together.
Then, their daughter got a huge account with their trucking business so they temporarily relocated to Kansas to help with the account for a while. We were watchig their house for them.
A few months after their relocation, we get a call from Sherry saying Sam had died of a heart attack. She described the funeral in detail, right down to what the dogs wore. (they were close to their dogs!)
So, we neighbors had a service on the beach for Sam, sent off a bottle with a note signed by all of us and flowers, and it was very sad.
We continued to stay in touch with Sherry.
Then I am sitting here at the computer about 2 months after these events and I get an email from a Sam. Asking how things are , etc.
I replied that the only Sam I knew had died not quite a year ago and pardon my rudeness but I don't remember you.
The reply was, hello, you remember, Sam, the guy that told you to put alfalfa under your tomatoes.
Well, after my informing him that he was dead, he assured me he was very much alive and WTF.
Now, this is all through email. Sherry called and explained this phenomena as Sam's kids messing with us as he is really dead.
What about the alfalfa I ask Sherry? He must have told them about it because he is dead.
So I email Sam back and say that I'm sorry whoever you are but Sam is dead. I just talked to Sherry and heard her voice.
I have only talked to you through email.

Ring ring ring. Hello, this is Sam, do you believe me now?

It was Sam alrighty, back from the dead!
What a trip !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Turns out that they had divorced, Sherry went a little whacko, (thus the divorce) and Sam in her mind was dead. Complete with funeral and the works.hahahahahahaha:mad::?::o:?:

Now now now,

He certainly could have pressed charges but that is minor compared to some stunts that are carried out by ex's.
He just didn't feel like persueing the issue.
This is something all people have in common, jealousy, rage, etc. when it comes to breakups under certain circumstances.
Certain countries promote these breakups/divorces in fact. $$$

Could you elaborate on the "alfalfa under the tomatoes" part? Is this a gardening technique for greater produce?

Some credit to

Dead Sam and his Grandpa.

Sam told me this was a trick of his Grandpas who was a famous tomatoe grower so I tried half my tomatoes with and half without. It made a huge difference.

One handful of alfalfa put in the hole right before you plant the tomatoe plants.

Buen provecho!!

Cool ghost story, JR. Sound like Sam went from one prison to another.

Alfalfa - also gives quite a boost to roses. Too late to plant your own? Use some pellets available at most pet stores (rabbit food).

Great story JRB...

Just when you think you've heard-em-all, something like that crosses your path!

That 'alfalfa' hint's got me to thinking...I wonder if the Hemp Growers overpower the farm supply houses during the planting season??? Maybe I'll try sewing some alfalfa in a cloth pouch and wear it in my shorts to impress my female friends... If you put some alfalfa into the holes you plant 'alfalfa' seeds, will you get a much larger yield??? If it really works that great, I'd try some alfalfa along with my Agave plants to get some really GIANT pina's!...

Just think, Alfalfas not just for St Patrick's Day, anymore!

Great post JR...

I kept wondering and thinking as I'm reading and there was no logical answer and then there it was, his wife was nuts! What a great story. I'd ask for the prescription to the driving her nuts part but I'd live in fear that it's get used on me before I could get to her. Besides, I'm succeeding on my own. 35 years and I still confuse her! Mas, por favor.

I can vouch for Mexitron?s 12 foot tall tomato plants. Biggest damn tomatoes I have ever seen! :wow: They are completely taking over the wall of his garage. I guess it also helps to plant them in February....
Want big tomato plants? Use cow poop and plant early.
