Santiago! Baseball related post!!!
Wonder of wonders!!!
Here in San Carlos, we are sandwiched in between the cities of Hermosillo and Obregon that have teams in the Mexican Pacific League. This is the
equivalent of about AA ball in the States. And, of course, we have a team in Guaymas in the Northern Mexican League, something like A baseball.
In 2009, Guaymas won it's first championship since the 1960s.
In 2010, Hermosillo won their league's championship.
Now, in the 2010-11 season, Obregon is one game away from playing in the finals.
Over here, baseball never stops when MLB finishes in November! We keep going to games.
I never figured this into retiring over here. What a bonus!!!
You gotta come visit one season, Amigo. Mexicans love beisbol as much as 'Mericans.

Have been to the ball stadium in Cd. Obregon a couple of times to watch the Yaquis play. Always fun.
The Series del Caribe is next month and you'll see some great ball playing. It will be played in Puerto Rico this year. Quite a few major leaguers
play for their home country in this series.
I think the world is run by C- students.

Hook/BMG: are the infields grass at this level of play? 2 umpires? Are the traditions the same (don't walk across the pitchers mound, chin music,
stuff like that). Arguing with calls about the same?
Just curious, no value judgment here.

Well, in the A league games they only have two umps. In the AA league, it's umps at all bases.
I havent seen any players arguing calls in about 15 games watched. Only one manager argument...........and he had a right to argue. Never seen players
even question balls and strikes much, though they often have reason to. We usually sit right behind home and the strike zone is, well, a work in
progress.
Really havent seen any "purpose pitches" to speak of. Not that I havent seen situations that called for it. I have. Just doesnt seem to happen. These
are players working on their individual skills more than anything, I would guess.
YES, the infield is grass. Hell, even our softball league has a grass infield.

Obregon has a grass field and 4 umps. The game is toned down a bit with not as much arguing with the umps or on-field fights. Many of the Mexican
League players are also with minor league teams in the U.S. and some have played in the majors. The Yaquis have several players that have at least
spent some time in the majors. The most famous current player for them right now is Jeff Salazar who has played for the Rockies and the Diamondbacks.
I also like that they have team cheerleaders.
