Gas-plant project piques interest

By Sandra Dibble

TIJUANA ? For the first time since he took office 10 months ago, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is planning a trip to Mexico ? and it looks like his first stop could be Baja California.

Schwarzenegger wants to learn more about the liquefied natural gas terminals being proposed for Baja California "since an important quantity of what these . . . companies export would go to California," said Baja California Gov. Eugenio Elorduy.

The two governors discussed the visit last week during the Border Governors Conference in Santa Fe, N.M., Elorduy said.

Schwarzenegger is also interested in a wind energy pilot project being proposed for Baja California, Elorduy said. "Sustainable energy is an important issue for him and for us as well," Elorduy said.

No date has been set for the visit, Elorduy said, but the governors' staffs are in contact about the timing and other particulars.

The governors talked about the possibility of traveling together to Mexico City to discuss issues of mutual interest with President Vicente Fox, Elorduy said.

Schwarzenegger told The Sacramento Bee last week that he is planning a trip to Baja California "in the next month."

I don't suppose he will be buying any 'bodybuilding products' while he's there?;)
