Mosquito Magnet
I just received a "Tool Crib" catalog in the mail from Amazon.com.
In the landscaping section, there is a device called a "Mosquito
Magnet". It operates on the theory that Mosquitos are attracted
by the CO2 that we exhale. It combines "Octenol" with Propane to
produce heat, moisture and CO2 to attract the Mosquitos, then
vacuums them into a net inside the device. The price range is
$295 - $1295 excluding propane tank.
Although not something that I have any use for, I can see where
it would be useful in Tropical climates where Mosquitos are a
problem.
First time that I've ever seen something like this.

Although not personally proven yet
Our own Baja Bernie passed on this bit of info. for my ongoing mosquito war down south.
A bit of lemon joy in a pan of water is supposed to attract them and kill them before they can make it across the room.
I will be investigating this remedy. If successful, $1.49 u.s.

My son Alex is our family mosquito magnet. As long as he is nearby, they all go to him! 
Poor guy.

jrbaja--liquid dish soap is an excellent, non-toxic solution for killing all insects....put a tablespoon or two in a gallon of water in a sprayer.
Great for aphids, mealy bug, young scale, just about anything that you can hit(it is contact effective only...no residual effects)...its a lot cheaper
than insecticidal soaps... and doesn't hurt the plants(including bamboo!!).

I was in North Carolina about a month ago visiting a friend. He lives about 3 blocks from the ocean and his house is surrounded by trees and bushes.
He has one of those propane units and it allows him to be out in his yard, with no problem from mosquitos anytime of day. It works great. I think he
paid somewhere in the $300 range for it.

Actually it's a drop of lemon joy on a white plate or bowl with a small amount of water.
We live in Loreto year round or in the fall "Mosquito Manor" and it really works!

Thanks, Julie for the confirmation. It is cheap and has the added benefit of using it to wash dishes, AND it does not pollute.

I've heard that they changed the 'recipe' of Joy from the stuff that we all have used to bathe in. Has anyone used the new stuff? Does it still
work?
