Lumber prices in San Felipe?

Hello,

I need some 4" x 6" pressure treated beams for a project at my house in the south campos and am wondering if I should plan on getting them here in the u.s. or buying them in San Felipe. Is there a big difference in the price and/or quality?

Also, I only know about the one lumber yard thats on the main road coming into town. Is there another perchance?

Any advice/insights/suggestions is appreciated!

Melanie

Hi Melanie,

The prices at Arturo's (big lumber yard just past the Arches) are pretty good plus he has a good selection. I purchased all my lumber for our new home stateside but had compared his prices which were not any or much higher than the states.

Do you have to have treated lumber for your project? Typically treated is for direct contact with ground or in very wet areas and may be overkill for what you are doing.

Yes, Chuck, I need the pressure treated for this project. I'm glad to know the prices are about the same.

And thats a good suggestion, cj5orion, I'd forgotten all about the Home Depot in Mexicali!!

p.s. will be down for the race Chuck, maybe get together then?

Hi Melanie,

The Home Depots here in San Diego do not carry the 4x6 in a treated only 4x4, 2x4, and 2x6 so not too likely that a Mexi H.D. would have them. You may have to purchase at Dixieline or like and import at Mexicali East which is very easy but you must have Pesos to pay the duty at the little Banco.

Our travel day is on Race Day but a very early San Diego departure so we'll make the Beach House before noon, unpack and scoot out to the sulphur mine for the afternoon Northbound traffic.

We bought from this place. Prices are fair.....good help there too.
