At long last there seems to have been an updated re issue
of a limited first run of 500 copies of this fine historical work
by Pablo L. Martinez. I believe the purchase price in La Paz
Baja California is around 250 pesos. Get yours now while
you can.

Is that the famous "History Of Baja California" you're talking about? I still have a reprint which I bought around '75. It's an iconic work by the
author.
That price sounds low....for some reason. Maybe DK will shed some light on this.
If I recall...the title is, "The History of Lower California." Not "Baja."

It is a different book, about the families in Baja. Needed to research any Baja ancestry. Baja Bucko is a big user of La Guia Familiar. I have the
other book by Martinez, History of Lower California.

No Dennis, this is a separate work by the same author. In short, way
back in the 60's or so Profesor Martinez noticed that all of the records of ,live birth, death,and marrige that were archived in the churches and
government buildings were very poorly
protected and were falling victum to fires, water damage etc.
A lot of these records were from the late 1700's to early 1900's, being a historian he took it upon himself to try
and piece together as much as he could to preserve the documented genealogical lineage of the early Baja Californians.
Although it does have a few written pages, its value lies not in the prose, but the actual documentation of the inhabitants of Baja California. When
the book first came out many Baja Californianos who bought it would bring it to familly gatherings at their ranches and seek out their eldest members
of the family. They then would question them about their recollection of family. Often times they were able to trace their family tree quite far
back, as the population in the more remote areas of Baja consisted of more or less the same families that there ever were.
Historic pioneer families can also be traced back using
this book. Lets say hypotheticaly I wanted to see the first mention of the family Arce in Baja California. I could use this book to see the names of
the Arce clan from as far back as was documented. Within that thread I may at one point find a pair of names that are familiar to me or someone in my
family. The book then could provide leads to other branches of the family that I may have never otherwise knew existed.
A book that is not for all but for some a treasure trove of information. The book can be found in La Paz at the places listed below.

Thank you so much for this. I forwarded the information to a couple of friends who are very interested in tracing more of their family history and
they are going to immediately look for it in La Paz!
