3d Annual Tequila Tasting in Ensenada

Note: Although the event is in conjunction with the San Diego Museum of Man, you can get tickets for the tequila tasting event only and make your own arrangements for meals and transportation. The lecture portion is informative and entertaining, with headsets and translator provided. The artisans market (for brunch and mariachis), the cultural center (tequila tasting) and restaurant are all within easy walking distance from each other (1-2 blocks). This is really a fun event!

3RD ANNUAL FIESTA DEL TEQUILA
ENSENADA, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO -- Get ready for another adventure in the land of agave! Galer?a P?rez Meill?n of Ensenada and the San Diego Museum of Man, in conjunction with the Seminario de Historia de Baja California, will present a special opportunity to learn about ?The Culture of Agave and Mezcal? at the 3rd Annual Fiesta del Tequila on October 23, 2004 in Ensenada. Located only seventy miles south of the international border, the seaport of Ensenada.

The day begins at 10 a.m. with Tamales Brunch accompanied by mariachis and other live entertainment at Centro Artesanal and Galer?a P?rez Meill?n on Blvd. Costero & Av. Castillo. Local artists will present a Mexican crafts fair. At Galer?a P?rez Meill?n, you can admire or acquire the new, limited edition collection of handmade clay "tequila shooters" designed especially for this occasion by master potters from Mata Ortiz, Chihuahua, Mexico.

At 2 p.m., noted Mexican enologist Hugo D?Acosta, who has been instrumental in introducing the production of mezcal to the state of Baja California, discusses ?The Culture of Agave and Mezcal? at the historic Riviera Cultural & Convention Center on Blvd. Costero. After the lecture, you can sample several mezcals and a variety of tequilas from different companies and distributors, accompanied with complementary appetizers.

Ready to enjoy a gourmet dinner prepared with the subtle flavors of tequila? Restaurant La Tertulia on Blvd. Costero offers the choice of Pork Loin with Date Tequila Sauce or Shrimp & Scallop Brochette with spicy Mango Habanero Tequila Sauce. To accompany this mouth-watering fare, there is a ?welcome drink? (tequila, of course!), an appetizer of fresh mushrooms prepared in tequila sauce, tortilla soup, and dessert of tequila sherbet. Seatings at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. are available.

Prices and Packages: The Total Tequila Package (with tamales brunch, lecture with mezcal and tequila sampling, and dinner at La Tertulia) or tickets for individual events are available through Adalberto P?rez Meill?n at Galer?a P?rez Meill?n, Centro Artesanal, Blvd. Costero 1094, Locale #40, Ensenada; tel. Sounds like fun. Does this event ever end with anything less than everyone totally wasted?

Whole package with bus transportation is $80. http://www.museumofman.org/html/events_tequila.html

When I went to the first event, the ticket price for the lecture/tasting event only was about $12. We spent the night and had dinner at the Estero Beach hotel, as well as breakfast the next morning (highly recommend the patio seating for breakfast).
You can email tequilafest@hotmail.com and ask. Adalberto Perez-Meillon has a San Ysidro post office box to send payments to.

Listen to today's (10-19) Baja Talk Radio (1st segment) as Adelberto phoned in from Ensenada and gave a great description of this event... it's a lot more than tequila! http://www.bajalinks.com/tequilafest/
Hope to see you there!
