Update on moorings, fuel dock at Pto. Escon?

Is anyone aware of whether moorings are being rented within Puerto Escondido and whether the fuel dock is complete?

TIA.

Recent update

Steve on Blue Chablis has reported that for a 40 ft boat it is $20 a day, $200 a month, 3 month maximum. That is for moorings or anchoring. No word about the "waitingroom".

See his posting on http://bbs.trailersailor.com/forums/cortez/index.cgi/read/79...

The harbor didn't look all that busy

when I was there a few weeks ago but I didn't inquire about prices and availabilility. I have seen it with a lot more boats both in the bay and anchored off the sheltered entrance area.

Is there a precedent.....

...to them charging for anchoring in an undeveloped anchorage? I mean, that's just the coast of Baja.

If they do this, they could charge anywhere.

To me, if this goes through, a highly public boycott will be called for.

As far as the anchorage goes,

it's pretty developed. In fact one of the nicest and safest of anchorages along that coastline.
I'll see if my pictures are cooperating today but I'm sure someone has photos if mine don't work.

Huh?

I have launched from there and anchored in there. I DONT RECALL ANYTHING THAT WOULD CONSTITUTE AN IMPROVEMENT OVER WHAT NATURE PROVIDED. I am speaking of actually anchoring in there; not using a mooring of theirs, the dinghy dock or the launch ramp.

I can understand charging for moorings that they put in or for the launching of vessels.

But to charge simply for anchoring in a specific area off the coast of Baja is not fair.

No services provided, no charge levied should be the way it is.

Latitude 38 info

Here is the most recent Lat 38 comment. Generally pretty good advice, things tend to change after the uproar. This is going to make the annual Loretofest quite smaller...but it'll probably be changed by then (May usually).

I think that a Toilet dump station would be way cool... The boats that sit there for months with habitants that don't use the potty..I know it is salt water but...

I disagree with Latitude's attitude.

If "wait and see" is all the tourist infrastructure had done when Mexico initiated the new FMT permit, then we would still be paying 20.00 for the privilege of visiting Ensenada or San Quintin or San Felipe for 3 days or less. Tourists and businesses on both sides of the border raised a clamor and the rules were modified.

Personally, I think we should get Loreto businesses involved in ensuring that the mooring charges are fair and that there is no charge for anchoring off the coast of Baja.

What's next? Charges to anchor in Agua Verde if Fonatur puts in a porta potty?
