La Madrugada...

Anyone know the meaning of La Madrugada?? It means somewhere after midnight but before dawn...Americans refer to it as "the middle of the night". Too bad we don't have one word to refer to that time period...but in Mexico, they do. A catchy little tune I liked many years ago was by the band Los Tucanes de Tijuana, "Me Gusta Vivir de Noche"...where the word madrugada is used...the song, basically is about people that like to party all night...nice video and a good way to learn Spanish...very authentic Mex music.....cute video!!!

Amanecer vs. Madrugada

By the way, most of my dealings are with patients who come in and say they started having pain in the middle of the night..the common word for this is madrugada..I have attached a link which gives you a better explanation...amanecer is dawn...literally...

we often say...madrugaste! to someone got up very early....or vamos a madrugar when leaving early on a trip somewhere...so it can also mean the wee hours of the morning....before dawn.
