Good luck...

Never heard of coverage like that...it would have to mighty expensive, as the insurance company would have no control over what kind of vehicle you were driving...rates for a new Rolls-Royce would be a tad bit more that for an old 60's VW Bug!

However...once regular insurance is secured for a particular vehicle, you can usually be indorsed or added to that policy by the policy-holder, so you can then be covered when driving 'that' vehicle.

According to my clock...anytime is \'BAJA TIME\' & as Jimmy Buffett says,
\"It doesn\'t use numbers or moving hands It always just says now...\"

We have drivers license coverage issued by GNP through Lynda Bileu in San Felipe. The rate is $ 184 for the two of us and covers us in any vehicle. It includes guaranteed bail ( get out of jail card ). Fortunately we have not needed to use it but you never know. Hope this helps, Rob

Drivers license insurance

Butch,

I have this kind of policy because I drive 4 different vehicles down there - none worth over $5K!

It's basic liability only but my U.S. insurance swears they cover me for comprehensive down there.

I've used them for years. The service is great but never made a claim so can't attest to that.

good luck! :bounce:

I've had the same coverage as you Mike for 7-10 years. I have liability only and it's really inexpensive - I have 8-10 different ones I drive and it's nice to not have to have a policy on each one. Never had to use it either.

Butch, Nearly any company that sells Mexican auto insurance can write you this policy. just be aware that it is liability only so don't use it for your 45000 SUV and expect to collect. I recommend Lewis&Lewis at www.MexicanAutoInsurance.com , Phone # 1-(800)-966-6830 Fax (310)-652-5849.
Download form from internet, fax it to them, call them and give them CC# and they fax back insurance policy followed by mail hard copy. Just done it today and have new policys in hand. They are underwriters for Qualitas, one of the higest rated insurance companys in Mexico and several people on Nomads and Freds board have had losses with satisfactory settlements.

Mx. Auto Insuraance

Thanks all for your help. Got exactly what I wanted with a referral from Bajalou. $87.00 a year for liability only including legal aid.

Liability rates don,t vary from a VW to a Rolls Royce ! Same for all! Material damge rates would vary greatly as that coverage is based on value of vehicle.

Most of your U.S. auto Ins. policies provide coverage for your policy limits up to 150 miles south of the border. This does not satisfy the Mexican requirement for a Mxn policy !
