moto travel down baja-permits, regs??
i saw on a goverment of baja website some very vague rules about obtaining a visitor pass, & something about temporary importation of vehicles which
implied we needed to have our titles and $400- bond to be returned when you leave. I think i am missing something about who this pertains to; we are
riding motos all the way down baja from California, and after a couple of months, riding back up to California. Does this apply to us or not? Also, it
seems clear we are suppose to get the visitor pass, but can we get it in the states before we lead down the road?? don't really want to be delayed
once we get rolling...what time is sunrise and what time do we need to hit the border at tiajuana so as to not spend valuable daylight passing papers
and sucking exhaust?

That never happened.
Get insurance before crossing at one of the agencies, pull into the declare line at the border where you will get your tourist permits, and ride
safely !
Just like that!

Before you get to the border pull into the FAR RIGHT lane..........proceed into the "something to declare" lane, you can get your tourist cards there
(ask for 180 days, which is the max you can get as a tourist)....tell them you are going to Los Cabos) therefore you are covered wherever you roam.
As JR said, get your insurence before you go, if you get it the border, they will "rape" you.........I suggest you try Lewis and Lewis (they are on
the internet and will mail or fax a policy to you).....There has been much study (most of which has been done by "Bedman" and been proven by actual
claims (dang, I hate it when anyone has to use it) that they are the BEST!
Bottem line......PLEASE, PLEASE, don't cross the border without insurence........does anyone here what to realy the story of a few years ago?

CAN WE OBTAIN THE TOURIST CARD BEFORE WE HIT THE BORDER SO WE DON'T HAVE TO DISMOUNT AND LEAVE BIKES UNATTENDED? DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT TIME IS SUNRISE

Get off at Dairymart theres is a drive thru place. All Ins, should be the same price around the boarder,untill you cross that is.

this part you don't need to do it is for the mainland Mexico only.

I came to mainland Mexico on Friday and got my temp import permit for my F350 at Sonoita. Cost about 30 bucks on a credit card and was issued to
expire in Sept 2005 - 10 months. % have a FM2 instead of FMT so their computer kicked it out good till the renewal date on my FM2. Think the clerk
and supervisor were as supprised as I was.

WE JUST CALLED LEWIS AND LEWIS TO GET INSURANCE AND WERE TOLD THAT SINCE WE HAD NO PREVIOUS POLICY THEY COULD NOT EXTEND US INSURANCE!! WHAT IS UP ??

As for convenience go online and compare prices, there are several travel clubs that offer Mexican auto insurance. Discover Baja has 6 month and
yearly Mexican Insurance policies that you can purchase online with a credit card www.discoverbaja.com as well as provide you with visas however, I believe you will have to stop by their office in San Diego off Hwy 5 to pick
them up or perhaps they can mail them to you. Check with them also if you can pay for your visas at their office, otherwise once in Mexico stop by any
local bank to pay for your visa fees.
