Scotty's El Candil Restaurant, Mulege
In the Mulege area we have a true treasure in the El Candil restaurant. While the trimmings are a little on the rustic side, the true heart of the
matter is how well Scotty prepares his various dishes and offerings. We went in hoping for one of his famous French Dip Sandwiches (which are
available only on Friday but if you get there too late in the afternoon, he will probably be already sold out. His Mother makes the buns and Scotty
does a whole shoulder and slices it just right.
Because he was out of French Dip, he had Shrimp and Chicken Picatta on the menu. He explained how some chefs do it with cream cooked down while
other do it with white wine, but he did a combination in order to catch both ends of the spectrum. It was the best I can ever remember having and
went beyond delicious and the wine and cream combination matched up with capers was perfect.
We have had the best Calimari there we have ever experienced and because of the shortage in our area, he was having it shipped in from Guerrero Negro.

If you are really hungry try his wet burrito, it's awesome.
What we see depends mainly on what we look for.

Scottys
When we were there last year. the last Canadian just left and the town had a Erie Desolate look about it. We parked at the Ouesta Real and it was the
pits. then we found Scotty's " Wow What a Find", we decided to stay a few more days.

Scotty is the b e s t! He and his father (RIP) had a restaurant in Oregon before relocating to Mulege. He is a Culinary School trained Chef. He and
his mother are committed to Mulege...for life! ...and that is great news for Mulege residents. All of the accolades offered in this string are well
deserved!
Please say "Hello" from Tony the next time you go into the El Candil.

I always get the "stinky burger"; bleu cheese & bacon on a perfectly cooked burger. Never disappoints, especially when you're in the mood for a
really good burger.

This post makes me want to jump in the truck with the bride and head to Mulege. I've had some incredible meals at Scotty's El Candil. Too bad my
cards are maxed out.

How about someone posting a picture of this restaurant so it will be easily recognizable on my next trip down!
I know how small Mulege is and landmarks do help but a picture is the best!

Somewhat close to where the ice cream place was that closed down. (the one where the lady used to do some sewing when she weren't selling ice cream).
Thanks, the picture makes it easy to know where they're located! Most appreciated.

[Edited on 3-12-2013 by beachbum1A] | Now we're really confuddling the directions.
Its also right next door to the pizza place that was upstairs but closed about 20 years ago and kittykorner from the bar that is no longer open, and
across the street from the pharmacy that is still there but moved next door to itself which is now a boutique clothing store and down the block from
what is now the front-end of a computer store that sells hats that used to be a grocery store which was once where you went to make a public telephone
call.
Things change.
Everything but El Candil. Its a Mulege institution and is now owned and operated by Scotty and his mom who are serving great food and drink in the
same beautiful locale. They now have wifi and a pooltable, too.
Mulege's a really small town. Just go to the plaza in the center of town. Face west (the direction the sun goes down in the afternoon). Stick out your
right hand. Turn in that direction and walk. Scotty's is half-block on your left.
That or just ask anybody for El Candil, which is the real name of Scotty's restaurant, Scotty's El Candil.
Its worth finding. I love the back garden, especially now that the weather is so nice. Come. Enjoy.

and the parking spaces ar located in the dirt alley street to the immediate left before you reach the restaurant. In other words, right down the
street from the park.
Very nice restaurant and the garden area is really beautiful in the summer.
