Mood: Have Baja Fever

[*] posted on 7-2-2013 at 03:49 PM

Hi Bob, I am responding on my phone at the new place. This was no fun. A lot of rocks including El Marmol onyx and sea shells are homeless... ha ha. We are much closer now to work and friends right off the 78. Will miss the little house. Maybe a visit with you and Audrey? After we have settled in.

I had posted this a year and a half ago, good time for another go round. keep in mind this is from a paper dated 1919! DAMIANA

Therapy—A mild nerve tonic claimed to be valuable in the treatment of sexual impotence. Some of our physicians praise it highly for its influence in sexual neurasthenia, and it is said to correct frigidity in the female.

It had long enjoyed a local reputation as a stimulant tonic of the sexual apparatus among the natives of Mexico, before it attracted the attention of the profession. Besides its peculiar action on the sexual appetite and function, it is a general tonic, somewhat cathartic, and is slightly cholagogue.

The midwives and women of loose morals of Western Mexico also attribute emmenagogue properties to it.

It is valuable in renal and cystic catarrh and in general irritation of the urinary passages, through its influence in soothing irritation of mucous membranes.

In the line of the action of this remedy in its influence upon the reproductive organs, Dr. Reid mentions dysmenorrhea, headache, at the menstrual epoch, bad complexion, rough or discolored patches on the skin with acne, especially of a severe type, depending upon uterine irritation. Eruption resembling eczema, from insufficient menstruation.

Dr. Watkins gives as its further indications, delayed or suppressed menstruation in young girls, irregularity at the beginning of menstruation, amenorrhea in very young girls. It will certainly allay sensitiveness of the sympathetic nervous system to irritations caused by disorders of the womb and ovaries. The remedy must be given in full doses, to accomplish these results. From five to ten grains of the extract is necessary three or four times a day, and persisted in. The writer has been using it as suggested, and has been very well satisfied with it.

TexTry CONTROY in place of triple sec. It's the Mexican "licor de naranjas", in the square green bottle. t

TexI'll go with this one:yes:but how about replacinging the sugar with agave syrup? and controy???that stuff doesnt belong in ANYTHING! but, jmo:lol:t

In a mixed margarita the Controy works fine, and the agave syrup is a better sweetener than sugar. I don't float it on top so I can't vouch for Controy in that style.

another way to drink Damiana is in a snifter with half and half with tequila oer ice....for sipping. the damiana softens the harshness of the tequila and the tequila dampens the sweetness of damiana so they are perfect companions. Sometimes I add a splash of peach juice so it lasts longer...that will grease the old wheels!!!!! hahahaha....

you can buy it at Costco and Controy for margaritas is only 75 pesos a bottle at Costco too..a deal and I use it in margaritas and save the Damiana for....ahem....special occasions:rolleyes:

Damiana:

We have well over 100 plants that we took care not to disturb when we built our home. It makes a great tea when combined with lemon grass and a little honey.

You gotta try Agavero - tequila with damiana - a liquour. Wonderful.

"Anejo and Reposado Tequila blended with Agavero's secret ingredient, the essence of Damiana Flower, a flower indigenous to the hot mountains of Jalisco. Agavero's unique and wonderful combination offers a scintillating aroma for the nose transcended only by the rich and flavorful character for the palate."

AGAVERO RECIPES

Mexican Margarita
Lime slice
Coarse salt (optional)
1 ˝ oz Tequila
1oz Agavero
1oz lime juice
Moisten the rim of a c-cktail glass with the lime lice. Press the rim into the salt. In a shaker, combine the remaining ingredients with ice. Mix and strain into the glass. Garnish with the lime slice.

Playa del Sol

1 oz lime juice
1 scoop crushed ice
Combine all ingredients in a blender & blend at medium speed until smooth. Pour the blend into a chilled whiskey sour glass.
Note: Can also add strawberries or peaches for different flavors.

Lots of ice.

Tequila & Tonic
2oz Tequila
˝ oz lime or lemon juice
About 6oz tonic water, chilled
1 stripe lime or lemon peel
Fill a highball glass ľ full with ice cubes. Add the tequila and lime or lemon juice. Top off the glass with tonic water and stir. Twist the lemon or lime peel over the drink & drop in.
