Mariscos El Primo Nava - Ensenada

A buddy of mine and I had lunch at Mariscos El Primo Nava yesterday afternoon. Let me tell you... THE BEST Mariscos place I have ever experienced in my life!!

Located directly behind the Hotel San Nicholas on Av. Lopez Mateos.

I had a Cocteles Camaron (med) and an order of Almejas Gratinadas! They were delicious.

My friend had the same and also ordered some Ceviche which was piled high and very fresh.

Five Stars *****

The SAME boiling water that softens the potato hardens the egg. It's about what you are made of NOT the circumstance.

There are a handful of mariscos restaurants in Ensenada that provide a very good experience. Primo Nava happens to be my favorite.

Interesting on the Trip Advisor about the non-Spanish speaker. Primo Nava tiene menus en ingles, tambien.

Would love to hear from others who have dined here and what you recommend from the menu. It all looks soooo good! Can't wait to go back!

Bob H, I thought I had a copy of the menu, but, it's gone on to another life.

I experiment with the ceviches, c-cktails and estofados.

http://4sq.com/aFiAcM ...for what the locals are liking.

You can pull up the menu from their web site. I have listed it in my original post above.

Oysters were my guests' most vital demand for a treat Wednesday night, Jan 15. El Primo Nava will delivery consistently fresh oysters, because they have enough clientele to assure regular inventory turnover. Ours were fabulous.

Arturo, our bi-lingual server acted like he was very happy to see us and did everything he could to accommodate my guests. As they were first-time visitors to Ensenada, my word that El Primo Nava was the best seafood restaurant here was on the line.

Guest "E" asked Arturo for a recommendation and we soon found ourselves diving into clams au gratin, "Almejas Gratinadas". I have seen these before, but, never tried them. We were surprised at the different textures and flavors of the clams, baked with shrimp, cheese and I don't know what else. Just try them.

The complimentary chips and bowl of salsa picante were also fresh and fun. The table is also filled with approx 6 different bottled salsas with which to enhance your seafood experiements. Saladitas crackers and a load of napkins are complete the table setting.

We four diners then moved in different directions toward the smoked marlin, shrimp, octopus, clams and other ceviches on tostadas. I highly recommend bringing a group of diners, ordering tapas style items and sharing the different flavors.

Very popular & inexpensive place among the locals, it was loud & felt like I was eating inside a warehouse or aircraft hangar.

Seafood was OK, but just felt that they needed to concentrate on balancing the taste of lime, salt & chile without overpowering the flavor of the "Ceviche de Camaron y Pescado". I ate there during the summer, therefore I might try it again during the winter season.

For me seafood places in Ensenada tend to be hit or miss, therefore I tend go to Mercado Negro (aka. Mercado de Mariscos) & order up a raw platter of ostiones, almejas & patas de mula (natural sin limon, sal o salsa) from one of the stalls along the side. It's one of the few joys I have in life especially with a cold bottle of Moet Chandon (Champagne) in my ice cooler...

Not a big fan of Primo Nava. 2 x we've gone, haven't left the place overwhelmed.

for me, the best almejas gratinadas in Ensenada I've ever had were at c-ckteleria Mazatlan on 10th and Riverall.
