Sunspots and Solar flares

There has been a fair bit of activity on the sun this week with about 8 groups of sunspots. Seen in what is termed hydrogen alpha light (through a special designed solar telescope) you can see the magnetic activity and filaments (which are what flares are called when seen against the surface of the sun)

heres a image from today that I took with my solar scope and high speed camera

the view through the eyepiece is similar when there are conditions of low air turbulence

cheers

Mike

Nice.

When I grow up I want one of those solar telescopes.

We got to spend a considerable amount of time viewing a total solar eclipse in 2006 through one of those. Being able to see the flares shooting off 'live' was unforgettable. I almost enjoyed that as much as the eclipse.

Thanks for sharing.
